I can't believe I'm arguing semantics here.
It's is not HARD to infer the tone or the mood of the sentence.
There is a difference between (censored) off and please go away.
What is so difficult about that?
As for your 'higher standard of friendliness and courtesy/consideration for the feelings of others', well, forgive me if I scoff at it. I certainly didn't feel a 'higher standard of friendliness' here.
Hail to my stinky evil breath.

It's is not HARD to infer the tone or the mood of the sentence... It is for some...someone to whom you still have not apologized, for instance...

Do I have to separate you two? If I have to pull this car over, you're both going to be VERY sorry. ;D Seriously, could you two finish this discussion in private? It doesn't have anything to do with my thread's original topic.

I'll even let ET get the last word if he wants it. ;D Besides, I tried to answer your question from my perspective as cogently as I could, but nobody (including you ) seemed interested... Au contraire, I was very interested in your answer. I've just been thinking about how to respond. I completely see your point. It made complete sense and corresponds to everything I was always told growing up. I am then forced to wonder why Archbishop Tutu would come to such a conclusion. Here is a man that knows the Bible as well as any theologian. It makes me question what would make someone with his vast knowledge and experience to say such a thing? For example, Tutu talked about his meeting the Dalai Lama. Tutu said how this man was "cloaked in spirituality." The Dalai Lama spends hours each morning in meditation and is devoted to his beliefs. Tutu said that he felt that the Dalai Lama, even though he's a Buddhist, was worshiping the same God and if anyone could bring peace and freedom to Tibet, it was the Dalai Lama. I can't express to you how astounded I was to hear Desmond Tutu say that. I’m curious, Peter, how would you interpret Romans 3:29-30:
