Thursday, May 16th 2002 Plot: Second film in the prequel trilogy, set 10 years after "The Phantom Menace" and 22 years before "A New Hope". After a failed assassination attempt on the life of Senator Padme during a trip to Coruscant to vote on the controversial clone army issue, Chancellor Palpatine assigns two Jedi Knights as her bodyguards - Obi-Wan and Anakin. When a second attempt is made, the duo give chase and track down the assassin who is killed before she can talk. Obi-Wan sets off for the water planet of Kamino to find out who hired the assassin - a man namd Count Dooku, believed to be one of 20 Jedi who left the order long ago. Meanwhile Anakin escorts Padme back to Naboo and along the way the two begin to develop a romance, but when a nightmare sends Anakin to Tatooine (against orders of the council) to find his mother, Padme tags along. All will soon be rocked to the core as Obi-Wan uncovers a vast underground army of clones and battle droids being constructed secretly by someone with ties to the highest ranks of the Republic, whilst Anakin witness something terrible - beginning his descent into the dark destiny that awaits. Friday, May 17th 2002 Plot: Will Freeman is a 36-year-old North Londoner who lives off the royalties from an old novelty song his father had written. Will is overly concerned with his coolness quotient and starts to notice that his friends are getting married and starting families, leaving him alone in the cold. He hatches a scheme that enables him to meet beautiful women who he can date briefly but will dump him before things get too serious - he’ll date single mothers who will enjoy a brief sexual interlude but will realize her child isn’t ready to have this man in their life. Will’s plans meet with an unexpected interference - Marcus, a 12-year-old boy who is decidedly uncool, has trouble with other kids at school and worries about his mother, who seems to need therapy. Will becomes reluctantly attached to the boy, which leads to a number of awkward, funny and touching situations.
Plot: Based on the play by Oscar Wilde. Two young gentlemen (Rupert Everett & Colin Firth) living in 1890s England use the same pseudonym ("Earnest") on the sly, which is fine until they both fall in love with women using that name, which leads to a comedy of mistaken identities. Plot: A character-driven thriller about an unlikely hero - a delusional meth-amphetamine freak, who goes in search for redemption after witnessing the murder of his wife. As he begins his quest for vengeance, he slowly immerses himself in the seedy underworld drug culture around California. All info from Dark Horizons

This is a no-brainer. I think everyone is looking forward to Star Wars the most. I'm not saying that the other movies won't be any good--I'm hoping that "About a Boy" will be because me and my wife will be going to that one, too. I'll have to go to Star Wars myself, but like I said in another post, hopefully I'll be able to attend the employee screening of that movie on Monday or Tuesday night (not a problem if they have it at Midnight or so on one of those two nights). This is also the movie that might cause my return here to be short-lived. The rough draft of this new week's schedule has me scheduled for 50 hours--closing on Wednesday night which includes working for a 12:05 showing of the movie, and then all day on Thursday.
As for the other two movies, it's hard to get excited for limited release movies that won't play in Rochester. The Salton Sea seems to confusing anyway. I would've gone to see The Importance of Being Earnest if we had it, though.

Not everyone is looking forward to SW.
Importance sounds good, with Colin Firth. So who's playing Lady Bracknell, FC? Didn't they say? okay now everyone do the Dame Edith Evans impression - "A Handbag? ! ?"

Well, I guess if you didn't see Episode I, then it's kinda pointless to see EpII. However, considering that one of our three midnight showings of that show on May 16 has already sold out, and the other two are getting close, I have a feeling that you and Christina are in a minority. I'm definately not looking forward to working for EpII. Spiderman was busy enough with 3 screens. EpII (with 5 of our 14 screens dedicated to it) is going to be quite a bit worse. Plus, we're supposed to be the only theater in Rochester that has it. The local Carmike theater also seems to think that they're getting it, but it was our understanding that when we passed on getting Ice Age, that Carmike would not be able to get Star Wars.

This is going to get confusing.
He's talking about Rochester Our nearest cinema complex is at Strood, near Rochester..
Don't the Americans have any unique town names?

To be honest, I'm starting to worry for the latest SW. From what I've been seeing in the latest trailers, it looks rather sterile and bland... Still, here's hoping.

The Importance of Being Earnest is one of my favourite plays, so I am looking forward to the film in a kind of "don't let them ruin it" kind of way...

^^^Which is why I didn't vote for it! If it's a Hollywood production, it'll have to be ruined! If a Brit production did it for the purpose of attracting The Hollywood Audience, same comment! If it's meant to be a modernized hommage to the original, it might be interesting. The second film sounds like the kind of film that'll come to the posh foreign film theatre in Princeton and leave in two weeks for an early video release, so I'll wait for that to happen. Sorry, not having a car limits my movie options. The fourth film sounds like a forgetable summer sleeper that's taking up theatre space until Scooby Doo comes out. Which leaves the anticipated blockbuster that everyone's talking about! I may not see it on opening week, but I'll see it as a curiousity satisfier, nothing more. BAAAAAAAHHHHHH! And Christina, they don't call our common language "English" for nothing!

Hmmmmm, are you seeing trailers that I'm not? The trailers have made me more excited about seeing the movie. Not being a major Star Wars fan anyway, I think this one has the potential to be the best one in the series, at least to date. And this morning I learned that we were now up from 5 prints to 6. Will Star Wars be in the theaters long? I think it'll easily be in the theaters for six weeks. That being said, I doubt that it will have an early video release. There will be some theaters that will undoubtedly have it longer than six weeks. If LOTR can stay in theaters for 4 1/2 months, and Beautiful Mind even longer, I don't think Star Wars will have any problem staying that long. The only thing that will work against EpII is such a busy summer where every week brings another big movie.

This is going to get confusing. He's talking about Rochester Our nearest cinema complex is at Strood, near Rochester..Don't the Americans have any unique town names? I don't think so, Christina. For example, I live in a city called Naples, which is remarkably not in Italy. But hey! There's a city in Montana called "Joe". Seriously. Back on topic, I'm not looking forward to SW. I've been living in SW hell for almost a month now. All the EpII related books came out a few weeks ago, and not a day goes by when I don't get the retarded question "Where are the Star Wars books?" a dozen times. Then I walk to the person to the giant table with the giant, clearly marked "Star Wars" sign, that has been strategically placed at the entrance of the store, so it's staring at you the second you walk in. I saw EpI, but not until it was released on VHS and not only did I find it a bit dull, Lucas' cheapskate nature had recorded the film on the absolute worst quality tape I've ever seen. Doesn't exactly inspire admiration for me. Of course, it had its bright spots. I could watch Ewan McGregor all day long. Meow!

Hmmmmm, are you seeing trailers that I'm not? I really don't know... It just seems a little sterile, and perhaps over reliant on CGI... ;D

And thanks for reminding me about English. I sort of promised a discourse on English versus British a while back, didn't I?
