I thought it had some good parts to it, but over all it could have been much, much better.

I liked TFF a lot.
A decent enough story. Well acted. Good character interaction. A little humour...
If you look in the rate the movies thread, you can see it is my second favourite...
The only bit that really annoyed me was the Scotty walking into the beam scene. That went too far for a poor joke.

I'm with you guys...I really enjoyed this one. The apolonian/diocletian contrast between Spock and Sybok is extremely well done, although I think it's lost on about 97% of viewers. But even if you're a casual viewer that doesn't know Nietzche from nut clusters, there's some great entertainment value in this one. The scenes in Yosemite are great, as are the ones on the surface of "God's" planet. The scene on the Bird of Prey at the end ("Captain, please...not in front of the Klingons") is a priceless Trek moment that makes me giggle just thinking about it. I could go on and on...
Hate me if you must; I love this one. ;D

ST:V isn't my favorite; it's quite far down on my list actually. There are some good scenes and nice humor, but there are a few things that bug me about that movie. How did they get from the Federation to the galactic center so quickly? Shouldn't it have taken them a few years? Why does the Enterprise have such huge turbolift shafts? What is that god thing? What happens to it? In William Shatners book "Movie Memories" he talks about what he wanted to do with the movie, apparently Paramount slashed his budget while he was making it. Maybe he can come out with a Director's Edition.

I've already made my point clear in the Rate The Movies thread so I won't repeat myself. I will look for a copy of the MST3K edition and laugh along with Joel, Tom & Crow when I see it again, however.

It was given the MST3K treatment, but I doubt that Paramount would allow them to officially release it on videotape. I may have to wait until next year when I go convention-hopping and see what dealer has an "unofficial" recording of the original broadcast.
I once encountered a dealer who had collections of Star Wars and Star Trek parodies on tape. Maybe there...

It was great the first time I saw it, but as time went on I saw the errors made, like the Enterprise having over 90 decks, little things like that, Then I read Melanie Shanters book on the making of trek 5, which was just her whining about how her father was the greatist and didn't let him make the movie he wanted. My copy now sits on a shelf collecting dust next to the often viewed versions of ST4 and ST6

The film had great moments,as mentioned above but, weeeeeeeeeellllllll, honestly, although they are all on a shelf, they do have a layer of dust on them.
So I'm a lousy housekeeper.
I have other talents.

Well...... I gotta be honest. ST-TFF, though it had potential, is my least favorite Trek movie. I remember seeing it in the theater, and being glad that my then BF paid for the ticket! Although it had some funny parts (Scotty vs. beam, etc.) I was always aware that I was watching a movie. I was never swept away to the point that I lost track of time. When you're halfway through a movie and you're wondering how many loads of laundry you need to do that night... I guess what I'm trying to say is that the writing was weak and the actors (though I love them all) seemed to be just going through the motions. Very little of it seemed believable to me. I just don't see Uhura agreeing to debase herself to doing a fan dance to distract the opposition... Plus, all the continuity errors (like the deck numbers going up the higher they got in the turbolift... c'mon, we all know that the highest deck is the bridge, on Deck 1) just got in the way of a potentially good movie.
