Wow. Wow. Wow. I have to say, I didn't post any comments on the last episode (Detained) because, unfortunately, I didn't think it was as strong an episode as the rest of you did. BUT... Vox Sola? Freaking AWESOME!!! Every character in the ep was an integral part of the story. We had Malcolm "I wanna blow it up" vs. Hoshi "just let me talk to it". We had Trip and Archer in peril, yet joking. We had T'Pol and Hoshi attacking a problem from opposite sides, and solving it, as well as clearing up some personal (respect) issues. We had Phlox arguing for the ethical treatment of his "patient". We got to see some more of the crew. And Mayweather... after trash-talking the guards in "Detained", it's like he finally got comfortable in the role. His scene on the bridge where he apologizes... he took some serious acting lessons or something, because that scene worked. Ok, there were no Decontamination Room scenes (wow, and it's even May sweeps, so I was expecting one) but we got to learn more about every character, and see each apply his/her talents to "save the Captain and the Ship". 9.5 / 10 (just like a job performance review... gotta leave them something to shoot for!) Now I just want to know... what did they make the "alien webbing" out of?

Qab beat me to the punch. I whole heartedly agree!
I cound not have been more pleased. And YES, Maywheather seemed to finally either get comfortable or her learned to act.
It combined everything good about the previous 4 series.
TOS - Strange peril, not overy explained. TNG - All characters used well. DS9 - Character conflict VOY - Good FX to show a new species.
While we may look back at Season 1 and possibly choose Andorian Incident as a favorite (Also superbly directed by Dawson!) or Dear Doctor (or whatever) but Vox Sola will stand out as the first episode that truly brought all the characters into the story.
Favorite parts: At the end when Phlox, Sata, Reed, and T'Pol are all standing in the cargo bay and Dawson chooses to use a wide shot. For the first time we see them as a team, all working together.
When Hoshi hears the creature in the walls and it pans across into the wall, very nice visual.
Dawson has FILLED this episodes with great visuals. At one point we see the slimy tenticals and when the doors open, and the focus changes as we look THROUGH the slime to see Reed and crewmember X walk in.
One of my favorite things in Enterprise is that no one has died yet. In the previous series we'd have gone.. Oh, redshirts gonna die... but in Enterprise we just don't know. I'm waiting for that first death to see what it does to Archer, see his cheariness washed away in one quick blow.
For all of those NOT watching Enterprise, tune in for the rerun, it's the BEST so far, and shows not so much how good it is, but that it has the potential to be great.

This was a very good show, IMO.
Again we return to the idea of the difficulty of communication between species, and try to explore areas where problems will arise. (I'm still unhappy with Hoshi only taking hours or days to learn a new alien language, but.... dramatic license I guess).
And the guys did a fair job of reacting to the CGI effects that got added in later. Not easy looking scared of something that isn't yet there!
