Personally, I think that the first Trek film I saw was TMP, on the tv, and it was FC in the cinema, even though I'd been a fan for a while before that.

The first trekfilm I saw was ST III the Search for Spock.
It did not do much for me actually, never having seen anything with Trek before. But then I started watching TNG and TOS and wanted to see all.
Never seen a trekmovie at the teather.

Never seen a trekmovie at the teather. That's a shame... They can be really impressive. First Contact certainly was, and Insurrection was not far behind. I just wish that they'd hurry up and make Nemesis.  |

sneaks in.
Went to London with a friend from work for the first showing of TMP at the Empire Leicester Square. Couldn't believe there were fans in the new uniforms there. The proper premiere with the stars was that evening, but I couldn't afford tickets for that.
sneaks out feeling very old.

The Motion Picture in 1979
When i first went to see the film at the Cinema i was gobsmacked at the vast-ness of it all i enjoyed it so much that i had to stay and hide under the seats in the cinema so i could see it another 3 times. When it is showed now on the tv the film quality has degraded so much that it looks like its much older than what it is. Thank god they have re-released it on DVD with a few i imagine extra shots and additions.
There is one EP of TOS which i saw on E4 the other day that was, in a sense, an episode that was expanded in to the film. i cant remember what it was called but its the one with the probe thats about 1 meter tall and floats around the enterprise disposing of imperpect life forms, looking for its creator. sound familiar??

The First trek foilm i saw was ST:The Motion Picture. To be honest, when i first saw it i was quite young and found it boring and lacking a balanced pace. I thought it was a shame how two new characters were introduced only to be gone by the end. I trhink the idea and concept was great for the film, but the execution was poor.

Well, I quite liked it. The story, visuals and score were impressive, and it was carried out nicely. Not the best movie, sure, but better than that mess that was ST:III.

STTMP, I was 17 or so at the time(was I ever really that young?) a bunch of my High school friends all pilled into a chevy nova(Think really small car with 7 of us in it) and drove 40 miles to go see it lisitning to Pink floyds the wall which had also came out that week...man I am old |

The first Trek film I ever saw was ST IV: The Voyage Home when my Grandma rented it from the video store. I liked it a lot, and still do! The first Trek film I saw in the theatre was Generations on opening night. Ok, so it's not the best movie in the world, but it was a fun experience, especially on opening night! There were a bunch of people dressed like Klingons harassing people waiting in line at the concession stand, and a whole bunch of Starfleet officers hanging around too  And the stellar cartography scene is *gorgeous* on the big screen. |

To Christina, Zeph and Alex: If you think you're old because you have seen The Motionless Picture in the theatre, I was in college when it came out!
I saw it with friends as well. When the Enterprise left space dock for the first time, there were tears in my eyes. Keep in mind that I was watching the show from the beginning, so I was particularly anxious to see it in the theatre. I would be lying if I said that I enjoy it as much today as I did then, but it was remains a nice memory of my youth.
I've seen all of the Trek films in the theatre before I saw them on the "small screen." Only Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country and Insurrection continue to give me pleasant experiences with each rescreening.

I think I saw Voyage Home in the theatre, but was quite young (7). Then, I was a big fan when Generations came out. I'd never seen a single TOS episode and saw Kirk, Spock, and Bones for the FIRST time in my bedroom. I woke up at 6AM and watched all 6 movies, before heading to the theatre for the 9PM show of Generations with my dad. THEN, when FC came out, I did the same thing (except watching all 7 movies first) That time I wasn't alone. About 25 people came in and out of the home, the slowest was me watching and 2 girls asleep on the pool table during Star Trek 5. Then, 21 of us went to the theatre and filled up the back row+. Just as the lights dimmed we all stood up and chanted, "Who rocks the house? Yo, Spock rocks the house!" God we were dumb For Inssurrection, it was me and 3 other friends. Watched JUST the TNG movies on Friday night then saw the show. Don't know what I'm going to do for Nemisis.... trying to get in 10 movies in one day is just NOT going to happen.... |

What a great thread! Talk about nostalgia! I've seen all of the Trek films in the theatre before I saw them on the "small screen." Me too, Elric, although I certainly wasn't in college when TMP premiered... ...I had a cut-away poster of the refit Enterprise on my wall next to a poster of the Muppet Show cast. ;D |
