*glumly*
It's on TV tonight... Haven't seen it since the first viewing in theater which almost made me hoping I hadn't seen it at all.
*glimmer of hope enters her voice*
Does it get any better on second viewing?

It was free on the first time around. And down-slide all the way from the goose-bumping opening ta-ta-ta-daahs. And no, it didn't get any better on the second time. Frasier won, eventually...

So many people I know didnt rate Episode 1 that much, but I loved it! Obviously not as good as the other Star Wars but still worth watching.
If only they could have killed off Jar-Jar Binks, possibly the most annoying character in a sci-fi movie ever!

I saw it in the theatre when it premiered. It was 1/3 of a pretty good movie.

Major complaints: The StoryUmm... what was it about again? I understand that there are things that need to be addressed in the prequels which makes flowing strory-telling difficult, but still. Picking one character and sticking more clearly in his/her POV would have helped some. Techno stuff. One thing that made the three original films so appealing were the wonderfully ragged-looking ships like Millenium Falcon. Now everything is suddenly very sleek and stream-lined. Polluting the Force with science-babble. Stiff and pompous dialogue Actors like Liam Neeson, Evan McGregor, Samuel L. Jackson, Pernilla August...delivering their lines like they were written in marble. Notice I didn't mention Jar Jar Binks. I don't think he's that bad, he only stands out more than necessary because very little else in the film that provocates the viewer, in good or bad.

^^^Which is the main reason why I don't like "gimmick characters." Take away the gimmicks and what have you got? Another "cute alien" that the kiddies can collect and dump into their toyboxes and later pawn on Ebay.
What was it about? Return gave little hints if you look for them. Empire got it started with Ben telling Yoda how reckless he was when he was Luke's age and that when he met Anakin, he was already a great pilot. Here, we get to see both. Yoda mentioned how powerful and angry Luke's father was. In this upcoming film, we may get to see some of it and we could see how his anger will destroy the Republic in the third film. As I said, 1/3 of a good film.
The established actors were probably required to give the films scope and credibility for those of us beyond the Targeted Demographic Audience while the "Titanic crowd" will be waiting in anticipation for the Anakin/Ardala love story that will be featured in this. I can't wait for the Best Song Category to feature "their theme song" come Oscar Nomination time!
