;D [glow=#00FFD2,5,700][shadow=red,left,300]The Eurovision Song Contest![/shadow][/glow] ;D Something a sane person can just barely watch sober, yet more often than not I find myself following it. At the periphery of my attention, at least. Where else you can see such a purified kitsch, after all? Plus, it has an entertainment value of it's own to follow whether whoever happens to be the Finnish representative will get any points at all; We have a honorable record in being among the ones, if not one, at the rock bottom, something I fully expect to remain unbroken through tonight. No worries whatsoever if that woman dresses up the way she did in the regional final! Who else admits watching the thing?

With a totally clear conscience - NO I DID NOT!
Instead we ate dinner (no TV) watched a tape of Groundhog Day, followed by 'Too Short a Season' DVD.

I sat and watched it all... I do so every year...
And yes, Latvia had the best entry... A pretty lady, dancing with another lady, doing a striptease...
Hell, I'm not complaining! ;D ;D ;D
And, the UK came third...
[What were the Greek and Slovenian entries doing, though..? Deary me...]

You are suppose to listen to the song you know. But it was just so distracting!!!

Heh.. I admit my tournament endurance ran out around halfway through the songs, even when I had them less or more just as a background noise. I just peeked at the end to see who won, and how many points our lady managed to get [Not enough to have a spot in the next year's thingy, but she actually had clothes on this time!]. Half of the fun in is gone from the spectacle in question when about everyone sings in English!

I was not supposed to watch the thing, but we in the chatroom turned it on and sat together commenting and pregnant doging and rooting... We had ALOT of fun. ;D My plans before that was watching ENT broken bow, but I saw it today instead

I love the idea of watching Eurovision. Preferably in the pub, taking the wee, listening to Terry etc. etc. but I can't actually bear it. I watched "Harry Potter" again instead.
Edit: Ah, I see we have board censoring type stuff turned on. *giggles*

I remember seeing Monty Python and the late Benny Hill doing parodies of this contest, otherwise I wouldn't have the slightest idea what you lot are talking about.
Maybe when I get satellite TV in a year or two, I'll be able to laugh with the rest of Europe and thank Heaven that Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour and The Gong Show were never renewed or adapted for the Generation Y & Z audiences in the States.

Ah, memories of
"Norge, nil points"
Does that still happen?

Sometimes, I believe... But rarely...
The lowest score this year was for Denmark... 6 Points, I think...
Some entries certainly deserve it... ;D

Don't you try to take the Official Joke Of The Party -title from us! Norge has A-ha to compensate all those nil points, Finland still ends up 4th from the wrong end at best --if we're even admitted in! There have some horrible presentations in the past, but this year the song wasn't that bad [meaning there were more than three that were worse than it], but what can you do when all those little [?] Easterners only give points to one another?
