“What’s the matter, T'Vlut? Trying to maintain a shred of dignity? Why? You’re a butler, a Vulcan butler. Funny, I thought Vulcans were scientists, Star Fleet officers, diplomats, even explorers. Not butlers. What happened, T'Vlut? Hmmm? Not good enough?” Dayna stuck her finger into his stomach. “Too soft? Couldn’t make it on Vulcan?”
T'Vlut's eyes gleamed like a cat’s and a perceptible scowl crossed his face.
“Computer! Please have T'Vlut's parents materialize.”
Two Vulcans suddenly appeared next to T'Vlut. They looked around, then noticed T'Vlut standing next to them, naked. Dayna noticed a distinct air of haughtiness about them. T'Vlut was visibly affected, and each gaze from his parents seemed to draw a new crease along his forehead.
“You know, T'Vlut, I could make you stand like this for years,” Dayna said to his slowly cracking façade. “C’mon,” she said softly.
“Talk to me!” she then shouted.
“M-Mr. Johanssen leaves on the second Tuesday of every month for an unknown destination. He stays for one week, then returns. He has entertained Orion gentlemen infrequently.” T'Vlut seemed to have spat out the word ‘gentlemen.’
“They always retreat into the drawing room and dismiss me. Once, however, he received a subspace transmission from an Orion named Lekar. I was in the room, clearing away Sir’s breakfast dishes. Lekar had said an emergency had presented itself on Systos VI, and for Sir to take a package that was in his possession and spirit it away to Menos III. Sir looked pained, but agreed to do so and signed off.”
“Did he say anything to you about it?” asked Dayna.
“No, only that he would be going away for a while the following day.”
“Did he go?” asked Dayna.
“No, he delayed his trip for some reason.”
“Then what happened?”
T'Vlut looked at Dayna vacantly. “I don’t remember,” he replied.
Dayna turned. He and his wife were probably killed, she thought. Stealing from the Syndicate and then disobeying them was not something to be advised. Whatever had been in Mr. Johanssen’s possession had probably been sold to someone else, with Johanssen keeping the money. But who, where? She knew she would not find the answers here. She turned back toward T'Vlut.
“Thank you, T'Vlut,” she said. “Computer, end program.”
Dayna found herself in the same empty room as before, only this time she had some information to go on. She left holodeck 2, whistling. Krillin would have been proud, she thought.

Two Orions shimmered into view in the transporter room. Jefferys, Zack, and even Stirok stiffened at the sight of them. The two stepped down off the transporter pad and Jefferys came forward to offer his hand.
"I'm Captain Jefferys of the USS Archer. Welcome aboard."
The Orions stood still for a moment, eyeing the captain and the other two men, as if sizing them up. Presently, the lead Orion spoke.
"I am Jafar, Domn of the Orion Syndicate. This is my Consoglier, Rafus." Jafar took Jefferys' hand and squeezed it hard. Jefferys gave as good as he got, then extended his hand to Rafus. Rafus lifted his chin and gave the captain a resolute glare. Jefferys lowered his hand and glared back.
"Please join us in the conference room, gentlemen. I'm sure we can come to a diplomatic solution to this rather...difficult issue," said Jefferys.

Dayna walked into sick bay and saw Nurse Candy ministering to the doctor, who was laid out on the floor.
"What happened?" asked Dayna.
"Oh!" said Nurse Candy, startled at Dayna's entrance. "Well, he uh, came in drunk, and started becoming loud and belligerent. So I...had to drug him."
Dayna shook her head. "Men." Dayna paced the floor. "Bring him 'round."
Nurse Candy went to get another hypospray and injected it into the doctor. His eyes fluttered and then he sat bolt upright.
"Where am I?" said the doctor. He looked around. "Oh."
Dayna grabbed him by the ear and pulled him up off the ground.
"OW!" screamed the doctor.
"I'll give you something to scream about," said Dayna. "Come on, we're going on a trip."
"Where?" asked the doctor.
"Systos VI," said Dayna. She strode out of sick bay, the doctor in tow.

Jafar, Rafus, Stirok, Jefferys, and Zack all sat around a conference table. They had finished eyeing each other down and had now started with the 'negotiations.'
"We demand that you return the woman to us immediately," said Rafus in a loud voice.
"Why?" asked Zack.
"She's a criminal," replied Jafar.
"Ha!" shouted Zack. "That's rich! One criminal chasing after another?"
"We are not criminals," protested Jafar. "We are businessmen."
"The business of slavery, which is against all Federation laws," replied Zack.
"May I remind you that the Orion system is not part of the Federation?" said Rafus.
"Oh, you may remind me, Domn," said Jefferys. "And may I remind you that many of your trading partners are members of the Federation. And that if enough evidence is brought against you, you may be tried in absentia in a Federation tribunal?"
"If you are found guilty, all Federation members will be forbidden to trade with you," said Stirok stoically.
"Captain," said Jafar. "I have three ships out there." He pointed to the bulkheads. "All with their weapons trained on this ship. You are but one, while we are three. In a fair fight..." Jafar trailed off and raised his eyebrows as if to emphasize the fact that the Archer was at a disadvantage.
"We have ships converging on this sector even as we speak," said Stirok.
"Ah, but they will arrive too late," replied Jafar coolly.
"If you destroy this ship, you will be hunted down from one end of this universe to the other," threatened Zack.
Jafar chuckled. "Will I? Will the Federation commit such resources to the elimination of one ship?" Jafar leaned forward. "I don't think so."
Fire blazed in Zack's eyes and he was almost about to jump across the table at Jafar. Jefferys stuck out his hand and took ahold of Zack's arm to restrain him.
"Gentlemen, you are not the only ones with dangerous friends in secret places," said Jefferys. "In my years in the Federation, I've done many favors for a variety of friends. Even delivering a part to help move through fluidic space more easily...to Species 8472."
At the mention of that, Jafar's face affected an incredulous look and he sat back in his chair. "Is that a threat, captain?" asked Jafar.
"Let's just say we're laying all the cards on the table," replied Jefferys. "Now, why don't we take an hour's break to think this matter over. I'm sure we can come to an amicable agreement," said Jefferys, rising. Zack and Stirok rose as well, and the three walked out of the room, leaving a speechless duo of Orions.
As Jefferys exited the room, his communicator badge chimed.
"Jefferys here."
[Sir, Agent D'Aaron and Dr. Johanssen just left in the shuttle. They said you had approved it, and I didn't want to interrupt your meeting with the Orions.]
"D*** that woman," said Jefferys.

Dayna and the doctor arrived in shuttle bay 4, Dayna dragging the doctor along by his arm.
"I doubt the captain will give us permission to leave," protested the doctor.
"Permission? Who said anything about permission?" replied Dayna.
She hauled the doctor on board the shuttle craft and strapped in.
"What about that little matter of the Orion ships?" asked Johanssen.
Dayna smiled a one-sided grin at the doctor and reached into her pocket. She pulled out a chip and inserted it into the shuttle console.
"What's that?" asked the doctor.
"Cloaking device," replied Dayna.
"Since when did they get so small?"
"Since Section 31 got their hands on it. Now, for a little matter of information. Computer, access data file Omega 782 Iota Beta. Clearance code D'Aaron 7840 Zed Bravo Gamma."
"Accessing," said the computer.
"Download the specs on the Orion ship and transfer the information to Stirok's and Brandt's consoles." Detailed information on the Orion ships' dilithium crystal articulation frame appeared on the screen.
"You understand that?" asked the doctor.
"Heck, no," replied Dayna. "But I'm sure Stirok and Brandt can do something with it."
"Transfer complete," said the computer.
"Then let's go," said Dayna. She punched the buttons on the console and activated the cloaking device as the shuttle bay doors slid open. Then she punched the power to maximum and tore off into the vastness of space, executing evasive maneuvers should the Orion ships attempt a blanket fire in the direction of the bay doors. However, no weapons fire came. Dayna assumed they must have thought the shuttle doors opened by accident.
***************************** "How long do you think they'll cool their heels in there?" asked Zack of Jefferys as they strode down the hall.
"Cool their heels?" said Jefferys.
"An old Earth term, meaning to wait," replied Stirok.
Jefferys chuckled. "Probably only 10 minutes or so, but any time gained may be of benefit. Stirok, I want you to see if you can find out any information on Orion ships, see if there are any inherent structural weaknesses. We may be able to take advantage of that."
"Yes, captain," said Stirok as the three entered the turbolift.
"Bridge," said Jefferys.
The three momentarily arrived on the bridge and each went to their stations.
"Captain, Lt. D'Aaron has transferred some information on the Orion ships to my console. It may be something we can use," said Lt. Brandt.
"Transfer it to Stirok's station," said Jefferys.
"No need," replied Stirok. "I have it already. Hmmm...it seems their dilithium crystal articulation frame contains a structural weakness."
"Perhaps we can reverse the polarity on a graviton field to further weaken its structural integrity," said Lt. Brandt.
"We would, of course, have to get them to lower their shield," replied Stirok.
"Let's send back their 'ambassadors,'" growled Jefferys. "How long will it take to fashion the modified graviton field?"
"About 10 minutes," replied Brandt.
"Do it," said Jefferys.

Dayna and the doctor had been sitting in a bar for the past 3 hours, waiting for a contact to show up.
"How long do we have to wait?" complained Johanssen.
"Half the life of a spy is waiting," replied Dayna. "Get used to it. The agent in this sector doesn't know me from Adam; he's probably checking us out now. Just be patient, he'll show up soon."
Dayna nursed her drink and leaned back in the chair, surveying the crowd. In the midst of the chattering patrons, she spotted a man who stood still amongst them. He eyed Dayna, then turned and headed for a back exit.
Dayna turned to Johanssen. "Come on," she said.

Dayna and the Doc followed the agent out the back door into the twilight of the Systos VI sky. Dayna made sure to keep 20 paces behind until they reached a secure location. They walked for about 10 bloicks into an industrial park. Industrial robots milled about, carrying boxes of supplies to and fro. The agent ducked into a small shed. Johanssen followed closely on Dayna's heels, like an eager puppy dog.
"Hey, this is kinda fun," he said.
Dayna gave a him a quick backhand to his left cheek.
"This isn't a game, Doc. Now shut up and just follow my lead."
Dayna and Johanssen quickly slid into the shed, shutting the door behind them. They were greeted by a phaser pointed at the back of their heads. Dayna had suspected such a greeting, but allowed it, to engender trust. She put up her hands, as did the doctor. The agent came up behind thenm and took their phasers.
"Talk!" said the agent.
"I'm Agent Dayna D'Aaron, Federation Intelli..."
"I know who you are," interrupted the agent. "I want to know why you're here, along with your little friend, Doc Johanssen."
At that, Doc jumped. "How did he..."
Dayna raised her voice to drown out the doctor. "We need information," she said.
"What information?" asked the agent.
"Twenty years ago, one David Johanssen, a likely agent for the Orion Syndicate, was instructed to take a package to Menos III because of an incident that occurred on Systos VI. We need to find out what that incident was," said Dayna.
"Could you be a little bit more vague?" quipped the agent. Dayna sighed. "Why didn't you check the FI databanks?" asked the agent.
"I did...there was nothing mentioned," said Dayna.
"The only one I can suggest would be Myla Genud. She used to run a cell here years ago. She's retired, decided to make this place her home, though for the life of me, I don't know why," replied the agent.
"Where is she?" asked Dayna.
"Village of Newport."
"Thanks," said Dayna. "Can we have our phasers back?"
The agent chuckled. "Consider it payment for the information." With that, he left them, standing there with their arms raised.
Doc turned to Dayna. "Well, I feel like a chump. Is that all we have to go on?"
Dayna turned to him and smiled. "Welcome to the business."
