Episode 1.1 Genesis Written by: Captain Matthew Kelly 4/16/2002 In Cargo Bay 14, a young crewman stood over the transporter controls. His hands were shaking slightly and a bead of sweat ran down his back. Transporter control on a Starfleet Spacedock was often referred to as "the hind end of space," but not today. This was his first and only chance to make a good impression on his new commanding officer.
A tall man wearing a Starfleet Captain's uniform stood behind the crewman. "I've never transported anything this big before, sir."
The captain put a strong hand on the young man's shoulder. "You're doing fine, son," he said in a deep, reassuring voice. "Just keep your eye on the readings."
"U.S.S. Archer to Captain Matthew Kelly."
The tall captain hit his communicator badge. "Kelly here, go ahead."
"We're in position now, Matt," said the Scottish-accented voice. "Now get that hunk of junk off my ship. It's not enough that I'm giving you half my officers, I've got to be your personal delivery service too?"
Kelly chuckled to himself. "Alright, Gavin. Hold your horses."
That was the transporter crewman's cue. The crewman tapped the console and a large swirl of blue light appeared in the center of the empty cargo bay. After a few seconds, a red light began flashing on the console. The crewman began to panic.
"You're fine," said Kelly. "Boost power to the Hisenburg compensators."
"Aye, sir," responded the crewman. He slid a finger over one of the controls and the alarm immediately went off.
After a few more seconds, a large object materialized. "Whoa!" said the crewman. It was an antique Starfleet shuttlecraft, the kind that was once used on the old Constitution-class starships. What the shuttle lacked in aerodynamics, it more than made up for in efficiency of design.
Kelly and the crewman walked over to the shuttlecraft. The crewman ran his fingertips across its boxlike hull. "NCC-1701.Shuttlecraft Columbia?" he said. "You mean this once sat in the hanger bay of James Kirk's Enterprise, sir?"
"That's right," said Kelly. "I obtained her years ago. She can't fly on her own yet, but I'm working on it. Nice job on the transport, by the way."
The crewman beamed with pride. "Thank you, sir."
Matthew Kelly's commbadge chirped again. "You owe me one, Matt."
A broad smile spread across Kelly's typically careworn face. "I know, Gavin. I know."

Episode 1.2 Genesis Written by Counselor Tae
Rhai was enjoying a nice cup of warm tea before bed when her door chime sounded. “Hello?” her voice echoed out. “Councelor? I have an important message for you.” – it was some one Rhai did not recognize. He entered the room, handed her the padd and left. She was amazed. It was a personal letter.. to her from Starfleet Headquaters. It simply stated that they were asking her to be transferred to a new Space Station called Polaris. In fact, the message also informed her that her adoptive parents were going to meet her there. She set the padd down and paced her quarters.
She tapped her com. Badge and called Zack to her quarters. He had been lounging in his quarters and sounded equally eager to talk to her. Only seconds later her door chimed. “Come in Zach” she said with a waver in her voice. She handed him the padd.. his eyes grew as he read the message. He set it down and looked up at her worried face.
“Rhai, I have received a similar message as well. I agreed to be transferred and I was hoping you would come with me.” She sighed and tossed her hair to the side.
“Are you sure you want to do that Zach? Our crew here is very accepting of .. us. A new one might not be so accepting. What about.. the baby?”
“The baby would have a wonderful life with his mother and father,” he cleared his throat, “it would be safer as well. Don’t you agree?” He held his arms out to her and they imbraced.
His comm. Badge chirped, “Zach?” It was Captain Jefferies, “We’re approaching Polaris right now, please join me on the bridge.”
Rhai and Zach exchanged glances and smiles. “Coming Captain!” Zach said as he walked down the corridor towards the bridge.

Episode 1.3 Genesis written by: Ambassador Vaudrian 4-17-02 Ambassador Sophia Vaudrian stood on the bridge of the USS Expedition, watching the Spacedock Polaris loom into view. Captain Dohlman had agreed to transport the ambassador to the Klingon/Romulan border, a trip that took her several days off of her original course to Janus VII, an R&R retreat. "I appreciate this detour, Captain Dohlman," said Ambassador Vaudrian, turning to face her. "All in the line of duty," replied Captain Dohlman. "I only hope you can help to salvage the peace deal." "As do I, Captain," replied Ambassador Vaudrian. "Captain, we've received permission to dock," said Ensign Freeway. "Take her in, Helmsman Henori," said Captain Dohlman. "Aye, aye," he replied. The large starship thudded to a halt within the spacedock. Captain Dohlman looked over at the ambassador. "Ready?" she asked. "Surprisingly, yes. This is what I've trained my whole life for," replied Vaudrian. "I only hope Captain Kelly and I can see eye to eye." Captain Dohlman smiled and nodded, a faraway look in her eye. "Mmmm, yes," she said. Ambassador Vaudrian looked askance at Captain Dohlman. She had a reputation for being quite a flirt, and no doubt had some 'interesting' stories to tell about Captain Kelly. Vaudrian decided to pick her brain. "Come, Ambassador, let me walk you to the spacedock entrance," said Captain Dohlman, rising from her chair. Dohlman and Vaudrian strode down the hall together. "Have you served with Captain Kelly before?" asked Vaudrian. "Once," replied Dohlman. "He was serving under Captain Kitty at the time as a commander. I was just a lieutenant and his ship was transporting me to sector 12 to rendezvous with a science vessel. Well, en route we came under attack from a Borg ship. I must say I was impressed with his handling of the situation. Very level headed and by-the-book." Dohlman paused and took a deep breath. "However, his thinking is...rather rigid. It may take some gentle coaxing to lead him down a different path." By this time the two had arrived at the air lock. Vaudrian and Dohlman stood still as the lock opened, revealing a serious-looking Captain Kelly. Dohlman's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Captain Kelly," she said. "It's a pleasure to see you again." A slight smile passed over Kelly's face. "And you, as well," he replied. "May I present Ambassador Sophia Vaudrian? Ambassador Vaudrian, this is Captain Matthew Kelly," said Captain Dohlman. "A pleasure," said Vaudrian, shaking hands with Kelly. "Well, my job is done," said Dohlman. "I'll be on my way to rest and relaxation." "Thank you, Captain Dohlman," said Vaudrian. "You're quite welcome," she said, then turning to Kelly. "Captain," she said. "Captain," said Kelly, nodding. Dohlman gave one last appraising look to Kelly before turning and walking back down the hallway. "Ambassador Vaudrian," said Kelly as they began walking toward the promenade. "I'm interested in hearing your assessment of the situation regarding the Klingons and the Romulans." He doesn't waste much time, thought Sophia. She hurriedly collected her thoughts.

Cont.. Episode 1.3 Genesis written by Ambassador Vaudrian
"Well, Captain, it seems we need to de-escalate the tensions that exist between the Klingons and the Romulans, or it will just degenerate into a destructive conflict, triggering higher levels of fear, violence, and distrust. A dialogue must be maintained in order to facilitate sharing and learning about the other's beliefs, feelings, and interests in a non-adversarial open format. Usually with the help of a third-party facilitator such as myself. Unlike mediation, in which the goal is usually to reach a resolution or settlement of a dispute, the goal of dialogue is usually simply to improve interpersonal understanding and trust." Captain Kelly threw Sophia sideways glance, and she began to feel a tad nervous. Her talking became more rapid. "Once dialogue and understanding has been established, we need to identify the core issues, the complicating factors, and the dynamics of the situation, including the costs to either side in this treaty. Not only in monetary terms, but in terms of resources, emotional energy, and other intangibles. Then we can move on to conflict transformation, which reflects the notion that this conflict will go on for a long period of time, and that the nature of the relationship between the Klingons and Romulans will change, as well as people's responses to those changes." She finished on a confident note, then turned to look at Kelly. A scowl had shadowed his face as he gazed with disdain at Sophia. He stopped in the middle of the promenade. "Ambassador, we are sitting on a powder keg out here in the middle of nowhere with the potential for intergalactic war and all you can offer me is feel-good gobbledygook?" Sophia was quite taken aback at Kelly's response. Her first reaction was to become defensive. "Captain, you are used to dealing with people who follow your orders without question, to dealing with situations that have a pat answer. Believe me, this issue involving the Klingons and Romulans falls under neither category. The methods I speak of have been proven time and time again." "You'll have a hard time convincing me of that," said Kelly, as he turned and continued to stride down the hall. Sophia found herself having to practically jog to keep up with him. "The Klingons have been our allies for years," he continued. "It'll just be a matter of keepng the Romulans in line. They're the ones who are violating the treaty. Frankly, I wouldn't blame the Klingons if they launched a full-fledged attack against the Romulans. However, my orders are to keep the peace." He looked again disdainfully at Sophia. "And that means taking measures such as bringing you on board." "Well, it seems you've already picked a side," said Sophia, glad for her daily workout routine. She would otherwise be quite out of breath. "d**ned right. I suggest you pick one before this whole 'negotiation' thing starts," replied Kelly. "Captain, surely you don't believe that matters could be as black and white as you make them out to be." "I've made it this far in life viewing matters in black and white; it's served me pretty well. I think it's only people like you who complicate matters, people who need to justify their positions," said Kelly. Sophia's mouth dropped open at that, and she stopped dead in her tracks, a sense of anger slowly washing over her. "Justify my position? Captain, I've traveled the universe making peace treaties, and one thing I can tell you as the honest truth, is that there are good and bad people on both sides of an issue. The good and bad can't be weeded out at your discretion; they have to be balanced. May I remind you of the treaty at Empok Nor that I negotiated?" Kelly stopped halfway down the hall and walked back toward Sophia. He stopped in front of her, his face inches from hers. "This isn't Empok Nor. You won't have your ambassadorial minions about to help you with the details. You've got to get down and dirty, and frankly, I don't think you have it in you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. I'm sure you can 'negotiate' your way to your own quarters. Level 6, Unit 18." With that, Kelly turned on his heel and breezed down the hall. Sophia stood in the middle of the hallway staring after him, her jaw hanging about her knees.

Episode 1.4 Genesis Written by The Bynars 4/17/02
1100110100 was running around the central computer room like mad. It only had a few hours in which to finish upgrading the Archer's computer system.
The door opened and 1110000101 came in. The talked to each other in their native tongue so quickly that it was barely noticeable. In the few seconds or chirps, 1110000101 had conveyed minutes of normal dialogue. It then left the room right away.
1110000101 headed back to Main Engineering. They were currently reprogramming the computer to communicate directly with the warp drive at a higher speed. It's second sibling, 1111110010 walked (if you could call how they moved walking, they practically ran EVERYWHERE) into the room and next to it's older sibling.
"How is the work coming," it asked? The question was spoken so quickly that no human would ever had heard it. A small computer on 1110000101's belt picked up the questioned and processed it. Normally, it would have been routed through a main computer and then directly to 1110000101, but since they were on another ship and they were working on the computer, they needed to communicate directly.
"We are on schedule, but if anything goes wrong, we may need to delay the Archer's departure. 1100110100 is nearly done in the Central Processor."
At that time, the Archer's chief engineer walked in. Stirok stood tall over the Bynars. They were approximately 1.3 meters tall and he stood over 1.8.
"Do you need any help," the Vulcan asked?
"No, we can handle," 1110000101 said.
"The repairs by ourselves." 1111110010 finished.
<The diagnostic will be complete in two minutes.>
"While, we have time, I have a question for you? I understood that Bynars worked in pairs, NOT trios." 1100110100 walked in as he finished his sentence.
"We are siblings," 1100110100 answered.
"Yes, I was born after 1100110100," 1110000101 continued.
"And I after 1110000101," 1111110010 finished.
"Curious. Is there a relevance to your names," Stirok probed.
The three chirped a bit to each other. "Yes," answered the youngest. "Those numbers represent the birth number."
"There were 80 Bynars born before 110000101 but after 1100110100. And then another 108 before I." the oldest answered.
<Diagnostic complete.>
The three siblings began moving like crazy again. Chirping their language as the worked, Stirok was in awe of their efficiency. Before long, the computer was running another diagnostic.
"I do have another question," Stirok said. "Binary may work well for storing information, but it require more characters than most languages since the variation is small. While you may be able to store the information and use it later, other races do not have the ability to translate the simple negative/positive signal you give off. How have you compensated for other races?"
"We have condensed..."
"Much or our language..."
"To accommodate vocalizations..."
"For instance, many call me 820..."
"And I 901..."
"And I 1010."
<Diagnostic Complete.>
Without missing a beat, the three began working again, busily moving about. Stirok felt it would be best to let them work without any more disturbances. He walked back to his office, but before closing the door, muttered to himself, "Fascinating."

YesEpisode 1.5 Genesis Written by Captain Kelly 4/18/02
"Admiral, I can't believe this 'ambassador' you sent me," said Captain Kelly.
He was speaking to the image of an admiral on his desk screen. Kelly's hands were folded in front of him, trying to maintain his cool.
"I can just see it now, we have the Klingon delegates on one side, the Romulan delegates on the other and that girl, Vaudrian, is going to try to get them to start talking about their true feelings."
Admiral Harrison chuckled. "Matt, you haven't even got a full crew yet and you're already trying to get rid of one? Besides, that 'girl' is one of the best in the business. The Federation Council chose her for a reason."
"Granted, she's done a good job with the Cardassians, Admiral, but this is a whole different ballgame," said Kelly. "The Klingons evacuated that area of space during the war because there were overwhelmingly outnumbered by Dominion forces. They left their homes, their businesses and an entire mining operation behind. They had every intention of returning after the war was over."
The Admiral nodded. "But look at it from the Romulans' point of view. They lost 17 warbirds and thousands of lives reclaiming that area. Most of the original Klingon settlements were destroyed by Jem'Hadar soldiers nyway. The Romulans have every reason to feel the Klingons legally gave up their rights to that system as soon as they abandoned it."
"Finders, keepers, is that it?" said Kelly, raising his eyebrows.
The image of Harrison's face went deadly serious. "Look, Matt, I don't know what you want me to do. Sophia Vaudrian is there by the orders of the Council. I have to follow those orders and so do you. You will give Ambassador Vaudrian your complete cooperation. Harrison out."
The screen chirped and when blank. Kelly stood up and walked casually to his office's picture window. Staring out into the endless depths of space always helped him to think.

Episode 1.6 Genesis written by Lt. Loram Jaan
Lt. j.g. Loram Jaan stepped of the transporter pad and looked around at his new home.
"Welcome aboard, Lieutenant," said the transporter operator.
"Thank you, Chief," the Bajoran man said. "It's good to be here."
"I'm to take you to your quarters, Lieutenant."
"Thank you," said Jaan as they exited the transporter room. "I'm assuming my gear was beamed there directly?"
"Yes, sir," replied the chief.
Jaan flinched just a bit.
"Something wrong, sir?" asked the transporter chief.
"No, Chief," Jaan replied. "It's been two years and I'm still not used to being addressed as 'sir.' Two years ago, I was where you are - well, sort of. Just another faceless, un-named crewman aboard the USS Stonewall."
"You were aboard the Stonewall, sir?" the chief asked, a sound like awe in her voice. "I heard stories."
Jaan chuckled. "Well, I'm sure most of them are exaggerated," he said with a blush.
"No wonder you're an officer now," said the chief. "You guys were heroes!"
Jaan shook his head. "Not heroes, chief. We just did our job during the war. I enlisted into Starfleet toward the end of the Dominion war, determined to help stop the aggressors. I'd seen too much horror during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. After my basic training and Starfleet Aptitude test, I was assigned to the Stonewall as a Communications technician. I was just happy to be apart of Starfleet, fighting the Dominion. I wasn't looking for glory."
"So then what happened?" asked the Chief.
"Short version," said Jaan. "And I learend all this later, by the way, we were on a purely routine patrol when we stumbled on to a Jem'Hadar squadron massing for a sneak attack. We intercepted them and managed to hold them back until help could arrive. I was called to the bridge when the comm systems went down. I managed to jury rig a subspace signal (I won't bore you with how), and called for help. But then the tactical officer was badly injured in a blast. I grabbed his controls and kept on firing weapons until relieved by a more experienced officer."
The young chief's eyes were wide. Jaan chuckled again. "Apparently the Captain thought it was a big deal and recommended me for a field commission to Ensign, and assigned me as Assistant Communications Officer. Now I'm here, and a j.g." Jaan shrugged.
"So why here, if you don't mind my asking."
"Well," said Jaan. "It sounded like an interesting assignment, what with all that's going on right now. And I get to be Communications Officer - the boss. Figure I'll see what it's like to GIVE the orders for a change." He winked at her. "But don't worry, I haven't forgotten where I come from."
They stopped in front of a door, and the chief pressed a button. "Officer's quarters," she said wistfully. "Here you are, sir."
"Thank you, chief," Jaan said pleasantly as he stepped inside. "I can't wait to get started..."

Episode 1.7 Genesis written by Lt. Kenek 4/23/02
Ensign Kenek had just finished dousing her breakfast in yamok sauce, much to the disgust of her roommate, Tammy Golko, when the door chime sounded. Ensign Golko opened the door. "I have orders for Ensign Kenek", a male ensign said, holding out a padd. Kenek stood curiously and walked over to the door, taking the padd. "Orders?" She glanced at the padd. "Good morning, Ensigns," the young man said, nodding and walking away. Kenek sat down in her chair, crestfallen, as she read the padd. "I don't believe this..." her voice trailed off. "What is it?"; Golko asked curiously. "I'm being transferred! To a space station!"Kenek wondered what she must have done to offend her commanding officers to warrant such a transfer. "I'm a pilot, what am I supposed to do on a space station?!" Ensign Golko peered over Kenek's shoulder at the padd, "There's more, look." Kenek scrolled down to retrieve the rest of the information, and what she saw was far more unbelievable than the simple transfer. "I'm being promoted? To chief science officer??" Ensign Kenek began to wonder if this was some sort of practical joke, but the insgnia indicating official Starfleet orders was staring back at her. "Congratulations!" Tammy said cheerfully, patting Alia on the back. "I don't understand this," Alia said quickly, "This has to be some sort of mistake. I'm barely out of the Academy! And I'm not a scientist, I'm a pilot!" [Ensign Kenek, you have an incoming transmission] the comm chirped. "Route it to my quarters," Alia replied, turning to a terminal. Alia instantly understood the entire situation when she saw her mother's smiling face looking back at her. "Oh, mom, you didn't.Tell me you didn't.." Kenek said with dread. "I understand that my daughter is now a Lieutenent" Jema Narin said proudly. "You have to undo this, Mother.I want to make it through Starfleet on my own, without the Assistant to the Trill Representative on the Federation Council's help," Kenek said quickly. "Well, Alia, I don't have to do any of this besides congratulate you. Congratulations. Starfleet wants you on the Space Station Polaris, and that's where you'll be. Now, if you'll excuse me, the Council is about to go into session. Keep in touch, Alia." The terminal blinked off, and Alia leaned back in her chair miserably. She picked up the padd and looked at it again. She looked up at Ensign Golko. "Let's just hope this Captain Kelly hasn't received any lavish gifts from the Assistant to the Trill Representative on the Federation Council yet." ******************* Lieutenent Alia Kenek stepped out of the airlock and took her first steps onto Space Station Polaris. She looked around nervously, adjusting the collar on her new blue uniform, still feeling decidedly unsure of herself. On the Archer, it was different. She felt comfortable in her postion as conn officer, it was the job she'd worked for, in a field she loved. She'd never envisioned herself as a science officer, let alone a chief science officer. But here she was, and as much as she didn't like it, her ambitious streak wouldn't allow her to turn down a promotion. She noticed several familiar faces milling about; it appeared as if much of the Archer crew had received the same transfer. With one exception. It looked as if she were the only one receiving an unwarranted promotion. "Oh, well, look at this," a voice behind her said in amusement. Kenek turned around to see Ensign Mark Cartwright looking at her with a smirk. "How'd you get that uniform?" Kenek stiffened and said with as much bravado as she could muster. "I believe you meant to say, 'How'd you get that uniform, sir?', Ensign Cartwright."; Cartwright chuckled. "Oh, my apologies, sir." "As you were," Kenek squeaked out and went on her way to find Commander Zack to report for duty. She felt a flush over her cheeks as she walked briskly away. Here, on a strange space station, in a job she wasn't comfortable with, in an environment sure to be filled with all kinds of strange characters, including angry Klingons and Romulans, wasn't what she had picture just a couple months before when she graduated from the Academy. She felt like she'd lost all the confidence and wisdom she'd gained when she was joined. As a lieutenent, she felt more like an ensign than ever.

Episode 1.8 Genesis Written by Ambassador Vaudrian 4/24/02
Sophia Vaudrian stood in her quarters, looking around at the empty walls and feeling depressed. She was not used to getting chewed out by starship captains who questioned her abilities. She was also not used to such spartan accommodations as the Polaris offered. She also had to admit that Capt. Kelly was right in one regard, that she didn't have her 'ambassadorial minions' around to do her bidding...something she missed.
Sophia decided to do some shopping before she unpacked. Her walls needed some paintings on them, so she left her quarters and ventured to the upper decks. She found several beautiful prints and scarves, and even a lovely tapestry that depicted a Bajoran landscape. She was about to pay for the items, when her eye caught sight of a rather large oil painting of an early model of a Federation starship, called the Enterprise. The hull had the numerals NX-01 inscribed on the front. They meant nothing to Sophia, but something clicked in the back of her mind. Ah, yes! Captain Kelly's profile stated he was interested in restoring old ships, something about which she knew absolutely nothing. However, the first steps in mediation was to find a common ground. She bought the painting.
She returned to her quarters and unpacked her meager belongings. She then hung up her paintings and scarves and looked around. Ambience was important to her, and she would need a peaceful one if she were to deal succesfully with the chaotic scene that was unfolding before her.
Finally satisfied with her ambience, she sat down at her computer terminal. It was time to find out who the players were in this scenario.
"Computer, access Federation Intelligence files Alpha 34-01. Clearance code Vaudrian Omega 785 Beta 293."
"Accessing," said the computer.
Information on the Romulan Star Empire and the Klingon Empire appeared on her screen. She had requested this information from her father, who was now the Deputy Directorate of Operations/Klingon Branch for Federation Intelligence. He sifted out the highly classified material and posted it in a file for her personal use. She had to admit that these days, it was who you knew AND what you knew. Information was power, and she used her connections to their full advantage.

Episode 1.8 continued..
"Computer, who is the Klingon ambassador to Spacedock Polaris?" inquired Sophia.
"The Klingon Empire has assigned Totlh Kura as temporary ambassador to Polaris. He was recently reassigned from Qo'noS to Polaris. He should arrive within 2 days on the Negh'var class ship Ka'luhr."
Sophia scrolled through the information on her screen. Her Klingon history was a tad rusty, so she browsed through the archives about the Federation's alliance with the Klingons during the Dominion War.
The Seventh fleet lost over 90 ships to the Jem'Hadar in one engagement. The Klingons continued to fight alongside their Federation allies, with many warriors eager to answer the call to battle. When news reached Starfleet that the worm hole minefield was about to be brought down by the Dominion, three Federation fleets left Starbase 375, backed up by a large Klingon fleet, arrived to recapture Terok Nor (DS9). Once there, they were met by a large Dominion fleet. The Dominion were successful in dismantling the minefield, and it seemed imminent that 2,800 Dominion ships on the Gamma Quadrant side of the wormhole would arrive to turn the battle to the Dominion side. As the Dominion's reinforcements were traveling through the wormhole, they were intercepted by the USS Defiant, but before the Defiant could be destroyed, the wormhole aliens, also known as the Prophets of Bajor, took their Emissary, Captain Sisko, and caused the disappearance of all 2800 Dominion ships. With more Starfleet ships entering the battle, the Dominion decided to withdraw from DS9, back to Cardassian space after several hundred Starfleet and Klingon ships broke through the lines. The battle had been won by the Klingons and Federation, but the war was by no means over.
General Martok was made Commander of the Ninth Fleet which was now protecting DS9. Some time later, the Empire, thanks to Starfleet Intelligence, discovered a Dominion plot to assassinate a Klingon ambassador who had voiced concern about the Klingon's involvement in the Federation-Dominion war. The assassination was planned to look as if Klingons had killed the ambassador, and the whole operation was to be carried out by the Orion Syndicate, who had recently became the Dominion's latest allies. Thanks to Starfleet, the Empire was able to stop their ambassador from making a early visit to Sto-Vo-Kor. Good news for the Klingons (and potentially most of the Quadrant) arrived when news came through of the Romulans breaking the non-aggression pact they had signed with the Dominion. This was due to the death of Romulan Senator Vreenak, the man who had signed the pact with the Dominion. The Romulans believed that the Dominion had killed Vreenak, and attacked several Cardassian outposts along the Cardassian/Dominion border. The Klingons found themselves working with the Romulans for the good of the Alpha Quadrant.
Whew! That read like a soap opera, she thought. There was potential, the Klingons and Romulans had allied in the past. Yes, it was to overcome a common enemy that no longer existed, but it was a start. She decided to research 'ambassador' Totlh Kura. A warrior in diplomat's clothing, she thought. She snorted.
Totlh Kura had served under General Martok when he was Commander of the Ninth Fleet that had protected DS9 during the Dominion War. He was once rumored to have been romantically involved with Lursa of the House of Duras. However, when the House of Duras' ties to the Romulans had been revealed, he broke off all relations with her. Loyal to the Empire and a warrior of the first rank, he is also a shrewd politician who has avoided bringing any sort of shame on his House, the House of Mataugh. As a former member of the House of Kozak, he was offered the opportunity to claim the House of Kozak after D'Ghor dishonored himself and the House with financial debt, but Kura refused, saying D'Ghor had stained the House. Kura then aligned himself with the House of Mataugh, taking advantage of his close relationship to the House's leader, Kl'anq.
"Intrigue, always intrigue," said Dohlman. She downloaded the information to a PADD to study later. Right now she was tired, and found herself yawning. She decided to research the Romulan ambassador in the morning over a cup of tea. She climbed into bed and closed her eyes.
"Computer, lights," she said, before drifting off to sleep.

Episode 1.9 Genesis Written by Counselor Tae
It wasn’t all too unusual that the Counselor was in sickbay visiting with Doc Johannsen and asking him as many questions as she could think of. Today wasn’t any different, as she sat in sickbay discussing her pregnancy and the up coming birth of her and commander Zach’s child.
“So it’s a 5 month pregnancy…where does that put me doctor?” Rhai said with her hands placed on her firm rounding belly.
“I was waiting for you to ask me that,” The Dr. said with a smile on his face, “I was starting to wonder if you were going to wait till I asked you first.” He chuckled warmly and asked her to sit on the bio bed. “Shall we do a little scan and see Counselor?”
She walked over as gracefully as she could and climbed up onto the bio bed with Candy Marcella’s help. The Doctor did a few scans and started his warm chuckle again.
“What?” Rhai said, wondering why the doctor was laughing at her scans.
“Do you want the good news or the bad news Counselor?” His face suddenly got serious, but his eyes continued to twinkle.
“Good news or bad news?! What’s wrong Dr?” She all but jumped off the bio bed.
“It seems to me Counselor you have about 3 weeks till you are to give birth.” He paused, “the bad news of that is…, well Rhai I think you better get Zach in here.” He tapped his comm..
<<Commander Zach, would you come to sickbay? Rhai and I have some news for you.>>
Rhai’s face grew pale. She closed her eyes and lay back down.
<<Just a moment Doctor, We have just docked at Polaris, I’m on my way>>
The sickbay doors all but flew open as Zach rushed to her side. The doctor broke from his serious look into a broad grin again. “Zach, Rhai… the news I am about to give you may startle you.. but I believe it is important for you to know.. When I did the scans on Rhai I discovered something very amazing… not only is she only 3 weeks from giving birth, but in 3 weeks you will both be the parents of TWO little ones. A boy and girl respectively.. I don’t know how to tell you this, but this is very rare among Bajorans. Congratulations you two!”
Rhai’s eyes filled with tears as she glanced up to Zach whom was just staring at the dr. in disbelief. “Two? Are you sure Doctor?” Zach gasped. “Two. I am certain.” The Doctor said as he handed them each a padd with the images of their babies in utero to each of them. “I hear you two are being transferred to Polaris, I will be joining you as well. You’ll be in good hands Rhai.”

Episode 1.10 Genesis Written by Captain Kelly 4/24/02
Captain Kelly left his office and stepped out onto the station's Operational Command Center. The Command Center, sometime referred to as "Ops," was twice as large as the typical starship bridge. There were most of the same stations.tactical, science, communications, engineering. But several other consoles were needed such as Traffic Control which controlled the massive Spacedoors and incoming and outgoing vessels and Civilian Relations which coordinated everything from community events to medical emergencies to waste management within the private sector. Kelly was beginning to feel more like a mayor of a city than a Starfleet captain.
Aimee Levine, Kelly's aide came running up to him. Kelly and Levine were as opposite as two people's personalities could be. Levine had always been the hyperactive type. She was a very detail-oriented person, very accurate and often remembered the smallest detail no matter how long ago it was. Kelly was more of the "big-picture" type. He wasn't at all good with dates and keeping a schedule. As annoying as Levine could be, Kelly knew he needed her.
"Ah, there you are, sir," said Levine speedily. "You have a busy, busy day today, captain. The station's business leaders are having a luncheon at noon, then the first little league softball tournament is at 14 hundred hours in holodeck 2, then at 16:00 the Ferengi Traders Guild will be."
"Where is my senior staff?" Kelly interrupted.
"Some are just arriving now. The Archer just docked and will be unloading most of the officers then. Commander Zack, Counselor Tae, Lieutenant Kenek and Doctor Johannsen and the Bynar engineers will be departing soon. Lieutenant Jaan is in his quarters and hasn't checked in yet. We haven't heard from the Operational chief or your security chief yet. And you've met Ambassador Vaudrian."
Kelly shot Levine a glance. "Yes, I have."
Kelly continued, eager to change the subject, "Aimee, why don't you plan a dinner tonight? Have galley break out the fine china and tell them to prepare something special. Inform the senior staff to report to the dining hall at 19:00."
"Aye, sir," Levine said.

Episode 1.11 Genesis Written by Councelor Tae 4/24/2002 Rhai had barely had the time to digest the Doctor's recent discovery of the twins when her comm. Badge chimed in. It was an announcement of the first dinner of the senior staff aboard Polaris. She was to report at 19:00, which only left her and Zack about 4 hours to finish moving their belongings around their new quarters. In fact, they hadn't even gotten to their quarters yet. They were assigned to the same quarters, a larger space on the assumption that they would want to be together. No one had asked, but it had just been assumed. Of course, Rhai didn't mind the idea, but she had never lived with a male, much less a male Cardassian- much less have a family. It did seem a little overwhelming. Zack had been busy in his quarters retrieving his things and Rhai in hers, they hadn't had time to discuss the discovery of the twins yet.. nor what they would do. Rhai was trying her hardest not to think of it now. Their new quarters were 4 times the size of Rhai's old quarters, to accommodate for the children and to allow Rhai to have a space set aside for her work as the stations' counselor. She always found she was better able to help people in her own environment, and Starfleet had been happy to oblige. But for now, she had to concentrate on the meeting of the station's crew. She knew some of the crew from the Archer were coming over, including the set of Bynars. She had heard word that Ensign Kenek had been promoted and was also joining them as Chief Science Officer. There were new people to meet for sure, and Rhai wanted to look her best. She showered, put her hair up (which she rarely did) and tried to find something to wear. She never realized how hard it was to find something that didn't make you look like you had a space station on your stomach when you felt like you did. She chose her most simple and ordinary dress of blue and went to wander the station before it was time for dinner. It was the most amazing place she had ever seen. There were people of all races and origins, she caught sight of a few Bajorans even, but mostly she saw Klingons and more humanoids. She saw the now Lt. Kenek and congratulated her on her promotion. The two briefly conversed and Alia was amazed to hear that the counselor was expecting twins.. "You'll have your hands full" she laughed as they parted ways. The space station was so big; Rhai had lost time and direction. She felt silly as she gazed at a panel that had a directory of rooms. Suddenly a big hand landed on her shoulder and she turned to see. Captain Kelly. She had seen his picture before, and he certainly was different then her former captain! "Counselor Tae?" He asked, not sure if he had the name right. "Yes Captain," She sighed as she placed a hand on her hip "I'm not too hard to figure out am I? Unless you know of more Bajorans pregnant on this station." He looked the other way, "Counselor, I need to be sure you are going to be able to work in this.. condition.." He gestured towards her abdomen. "Captain, I am completely capable. You will see that shortly I am sure." She flung her head back and held out her hand to him. "Nice to meet you Captain, I must get going now, it may take me a bit to find where I am going.." He shook her hand and slight smile cracked on his face, "Can I escort you there counselor?" "Thank you Captain, that would be wonderful."

Episode 1.12 Genesis Written by Ambassador Vaudrian 4/28/2002 Sophia awoke to the soft chime of the computer. "Ten more minutes," she said sleepily, then rolled over. Ten minutes later, the chime sounded again and she slowly threw the covers off of her. She opened her eyes and, for a few seconds, could not figure out where she was. Then she remembered...the assignment to Polaris, the fight with Capt. Kelly, the information on the Klingon 'ambassador.' She sighed. She felt stressed out already, and it was only her first day. She slid out of bed and knelt down to say her prayers. Then she arose and got showered and dressed. "What time is it?" she asked the computer on her way out the door. "Noon," came the reply. "Oh, my. I see I'll have to adjust my internal clock once again," said Sophia. She exited and made her way up to the main promenade, hunting for a good restaurant. Too late for breakfast, she thought. It was just as well; she was starving and craved a large steak and baked potato. As she was walking along, she saw Capt. Kelly talking to another woman. She stopped in her tracks, contemplating ducking into a shop to avoid being seen. But she had hesitated for too long. Capt. Kelly raised his head and spotted her. He scowled at her, then said a parting word to the woman and turned and walked away. The woman turned to see what Capt. Kelly was scowling at and spotted Sophia. Sophia walked toward the woman, smiling, then veered off in the direction of a restaurant. "Ambassador," called the woman. Sophia stopped and turned, waiting for the woman to catch up. The woman walked hurriedly over and extended her hand in greeting. "I'm Aimee, Capt. Kelly's assistant. I wanted you to know that there's a senior staff dinner in the galley tonight at 1900 hours." "Thank you," said Sophia. "I'll be there." Aimee nodded, then gave Sophia a pitiful smile, and turned and walked hurriedly off. Sophia only imagined what Kelly had told her. Sophia sighed and entered the restaurant and sat down. *********************************

Episode 1.12 Genesis continued..
Sophia sat at her console, running down information on the Romulan Star Empire. Romulan operative Sela attempted to use mental conditioning of Starfleet officer Geordi La Forge to force him to assassinate Klingon Governor Vagh, a move calculated to spark distrust between the Klingons and the Federation. Later that year, Sela formed a covert alliance with the Duras family in an effort to take control of the Klingon High Council from Gowron. The attempt was unsuccessful, but it triggered a Klingon civil war in 2367-2368, with Sela providing material support to the Duras forces. The Romulan Empire was part of the Federation Alliance that defeated the Dominion, Cardassian, and Breen alliance. They lost their flag ship in the final assault on Cardassia Prime. During the war, the Tal Shiar (Romulan imperial intelligence service) joined forces with the Obsidian Order (Caradassian internal security police) for a covert strike against the Dominion Founders. The strike effort was discovered and ambushed by Jem'Hadar ships. The defeat was stunning to the Tal Shiar, effectively eliminating the Tal Shiar as a viable military force in the Alpha Quadrant. It was later learned that a few Tal Shiar agents survived the attack and were being held by the Jem'Hadar on an asteroid in the Gamma Quadrant. Ambassador Sotha has been assigned to the Spacedock Polaris to help ease the tensions that are growing there. Sotha has been linked in the past to the Tar Shiar, most likely as a former agent who took advantage of the Dominion War to tout his diplomatic skills to gain himself an ambassadorial appointment. "Oh, that's rich," said Sophia. Kelly the hard @$$, Kura the Warrior, and Sotha the spy. This would make for a most interesting round of negotiations. She sent a communiqué to her assistant reqesting that he send as many kegs of Klingon blood wine and Romulan ale as he could get his hands on to Polaris. Then she turned off the console and looked longingly at the bed. She was exhausted, and figured a nap before dinner was exactly what the doctor ordered. She climbed into bed. "Lights," she whispered. ******************************** Sophia arrived in the galley at 1900 hours exactly, dressed in an understated, yet flattering grey dress. Kelly was talking to Aimee and lifted his head as she entered. He stiffened at the sight of her. She merely nodded and said, "Captain, Aimee" before making her way to the replicator. She longed to order a large carafe of champagne cognac, but knew better than that. "Tranya," she said. She took ahold of the glass of golden liquid and took a sip before making her way over to Captain Kelly and Aimee, smiling as she went. Perhaps her sharing of the information she found out about her ambassadorial colleagues would serve to temper the Captain's sang-froid toward her.
