Interesting little book. I found it a few months ago at a used bookstore and sat down to read it the other night. Not bad... the plot was somewhat simplistic. Has anyone else read this book? By George Takei who portrayed Sulu. The main character is obviously modeled after a sort of "superhero" type of guy that Takei probably fantasized about when a child. A futuristic Japanese Ninja... it was a decent book. I read it in a day, so it wasn't horrible. Also, does anyone know how much this book might be worth? I've a first edition copy in pretty good shape. I doubt it's of any value, but it's worth a shot...

As someone who has read the book when it first came out and...ahem...had it autographed by the author, I enjoyed it much more as an action/adventure story than as an SF novel. It was more or less Robert Lynn Aspirin asking George what kind of story would he like to collaberate on and together they came up with this.
The younger character represented the kind of role that George would have liked to play when he was starting out as an actor, but even Bruce Lee was running into brick walls in Hollywood so finding good Asian roles in the US were extremely difficult if not impossible, "Kung Fu" notwithstanding.
The older character, the "Grandfather," was designed as the kind of role that George could play at any time in his career since he played old men even when he was young, like Alexander Siddig did in a Merchant/Ivory film(can't remember the name).
If Shatner can do the collaboration thing with Ron Goulart in creating the Tekwar series, why not them? At least George allowed Aspirin to share cover credits with him!
As for its value, other than George's autobiography, I don't know of any books that he wrote recently, so it could be valuable in that respect. Rarity more than quality tends to be the determining factor in situations like this.
