This episode was re-run the other night. Although I am not that much of a Harry Kim fan, I watched it. TPTB must have written it as a response to fan questions "Why is Kim still an Ensign?
They missed a great opportunity, though. When the woman alien saves the ship but loses her life, they should have had the younger alien say: "She's Dead, Kim."
Perhaps that's why I'm not as big of a VOY fan as I am of the other ST series. VOY took itself too seriously sometimes. The ST-VI-TUC line that got the biggest response in the theater when I saw it was "Once again we've saved civilization as we know it." (Kirk). Shlocky, yes, but true to ST, IMHO.

I think that my biggest issue with the episode is that he WAS so ignored for so long that this was too-little-too late. Kinda like where Mayweather's going. He had Fortunate Son, but if they let him go too much farther without any attention (he didn't even have his token "I'M STILL HERE" line in Shuttlepod One) he'll turn into Harry "Who Cares" Kim.

Question TPTB must have written it as a response to fan questions "Why is Kim still an Ensign? Well, I felt like the episode certainly answered that question. That being said, I thought it was a well written and well executed episode... *LOLOL!* That would have been perfect! ;D Regarding Voyager "taking itself too seriously," I'd probably agree (in fact, that was something about the show that I rather enjoyed), although a case could be made that DS9 did as well. For every Trials and Tribbleations, Take Me Out to the Holosuite, and The Magnificent Ferengi, Voyager had a Bride of Chaotica, Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy, and Threshold (which I still contend was written as a comic spoof).

Don't forget the hilarious Endgame... like they'd really end the series with THAT! So, does anyone know if/when they're going to show the REAL series finale?... Anyone...

About 10 feet past the dog, UT and Peter's daughter stand up, he's zipping his pants, she's putting on her full lenght pjs.> Wow... I need to get out more.

Watching Harry's performance as a commander reminded me of why I have been turned down for all those management jobs I've applied for over the years.
Because neither of us trust the drones to do their jobs properly! He because he didn't know them, (and me because I do know them but that's my problem).
It's very hard to go from 'hands-on worker' to 'hands-off manager'. But he'll learn. He'll have to if he wants to get on.

[glow=blue,2,300][shadow=red,left,300]Incredibly small Endgame spoiler below...![/shadow][/glow] Watching Harry's performance as a commander reminded me of why I have been turned down for all those management jobs I've applied for over the years. Because neither of us trust the drones to do their jobs properly! He because he didn't know them, (and me because I do know them but that's my problem). It's very hard to go from 'hands-on worker' to 'hands-off manager'. But he'll learn. He'll have to if he wants to get on. Great points, Christina...the hardest leadership lesson I ever had to learn was delegation. Fortunately, I had the chance to learn it at the 20th century version of Starfleet Academy before I was unleashed on an Army full of unsuspecting young soldiers and NCO's. I also had a father who is a retired Command Sergeant Major to help. ;D And as a junior officer and then a commander, I found that I had to re-learn the lesson over and over again with each new position. It's all about trust, I suppose...and trust takes time. From what I understand about the future revealed in Endgame, Harry learns his lessons quite well. ;D
