I'd been looking forward to "Shattered" for quite some time. I'd read the brief synopsis, and thought that it looked promising. Now that I have seen it, I'm a little unsure. "Shattered" certainly had a decent idea behind it. Yes, it was another time-travel story, but the idea this time [No pun intended] was sound. However, there was just something missing. It all felt like a story from a short story/fanfic/graphic novel. It was so very 2D throughout. The story lacked the depth that it would have benefitted from, and much of the content that actually dealt with the characters just seemed enforced, and brash. The characters often seemed out of role [my attempt not to say character again ], and didn't have the camaraderie that can work well in Voyager. Chakotay hiding his cider? Hmm. However, he did maintain his rather wooden and clichèd acting. However, I suppose, on a very visceral [is that the word to use?] base level, it was entertaining. It was fun in a sort of mindless way, just not that deep. I was certainly looking forward to it, but I can only really give it a 6... Oh, and surely they could have got some actors that actually looked like Naiomi and Icheb for their future versions...

It seemed to follow the same pattern as other time-travel eps on VOY. It wasn't so much time travel as temporal lane changing! Echeb and Naomi's alternate future didn't happen if we can believe that "Endgame" was The Conclusion Proper.
The Krenem episodes surpassed it as a "Poke Holes in The Concept of Temporal Mechanics" episode.

You know...this is an episode that has a lot of problems, but I like it anyway. I like to consider myself a purist when it comes to things like Trek canon, and I run plots through a pretty serious reality check before I really buy into them. This episode didn't really pass muster in either area, but I really enjoyed it. I suppose it's just another piece of evidence that proves how conflicted I am.

Fun hokum, with some nice lines. Like my Man said ' Chakotay plays ghost of Christmas Past'. But then he only read the bits of the scripts with his lines on, so what does he know of the plot lines anyway!

Like my Man said ' Chakotay plays ghost of Christmas Past'. No. Chakotay only does Chakotay. Different roles are forbidden.

I had one problem with this, why could'nt Chakotay tell Janeway about what had happened but not mention the future. The Temporal Prime Directive is there to stop you from changing the future, relatively speaking of course, so seeing as most of it had already happened, why could'nt it be mentioned ?

The one glaring problem with the story as viewed is that the 'past' didn't happen like that.
There was no C/J chat in engineering, with the then 'very engaged to Mark' Captain asking if they ever got it on....
The rebel Maquis Captain didn't turn up on Voyager's bridge before they set off for the badlands.
Seska didn't get shut in a Jeffries tube, she died in the Captains Ready Room.
It never happened.
But apart from that minor detail, it was fun.

I was confused (not unusual) . If they had all had the "pass into different time frame" jabs, how come when Chuckles set everything right he was the only one that knew what had happened? They should have all been immune to the change, shouldn't they?

They should have all been immune to the change, shouldn't they? I think he was the only one immune, as he was the one hit by the original surge...

Aha!! As I said, it doesn't take much to confuse me . Oops. Thing is, by the end I'd forgotten about the fantastic bit where Chakkers got hit by lightning.
