As one 'old enough to know better' than to admit her age, I'm very please to read that the younger members of the board do watch TOS, and like some of what they see. It is, after all, what started the whole phenomena off, and worthy of consideration as an historical document if nothing else.
Aurian has gotten fed up with Squire. That's probably reasonable, if you get it screened a lot. I quite like it, and William Campbell's performance was wonderfully over the top. So glad he went on to be in other Trek.
But the series strength is it's writing. The best in Sci-Fi at the time penned storylines and scripts. And it shows. It is still popular, and in many ways still the benchmark for the rest of the franchise.

Since my original post has faded away to the solar winds, let me recap and update my views on TOS: I'm First Generation like Ana's mom and Icenine. I'll always have a soft spot for these original eps since I was an energetic 6-year-old when "The Man Trap" first aired. They had their good eps and their bad ones, but what TV series didn't? I find it "fascinating" that you young folks weren't put off by how dated the technology was on and off the set. I guess part of the charm of a classic is that it can show its age with style, like a vintage wine or an antique automobile. Sorry about the video loop that you were stuck in, Aurian. Imagine being stuck in it for 17 years before new shows could be conceived let alone aired. At least you didn't have to experience that, my dear. Ana, just for the sake of setting the record straight, the ladies didn't wear skirts but an interesting form of clothing called "skorts." They looked like skirts on the outside but shorts were stitched in underneath. Women were rarely seen in actionwear, outside of tennis outfits and bikinis, on TV back then, so that was considered an "innovation" before we Americans saw Diana Rigg wear her famous Emma Peelers in The Avengers. I also enjoyed the scenes with the Big 3 but I think that the eps that gave the supporting cast a chance to showcase their talents, Uhura's beautiful singing voice and Sulu & Scotty's sword-fighting skills, are among the best.

As an older viewer, I have to say that I enjoy watching TOS, despite the rather clunky sets and primitive effects. This programme has been around for most of my life and whenever it is on, I always watch it, no matter how many times I have seen it before. Somehow, the fact that TOS is so old, makes it more enjoyable, in the same way I like watching old movies from the 40's and 50's.
