From Dark Horizons...
Great, why not put it up agains Ghostbusters II and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Oh yeah, they did that to Star Trek V.

Yes, but as we all know, the second in any trilogy is the weakest (StarWars2, ST3SFS)

The two movies you listed, Empire is critically the most hailed and (IMO) the ONLY Wars movie I enjoyed. Also, the other was the THIRD in the series...

Unless you're counting 2,3, and 4 as a trilogy... which they are.. in a way.

Yes, I am, with the Slow-Motion Picture as a Prologue.
Each to his own opinion.

^^^Sorry, my dear, but I'm with UT on this.
The Godfather II was also a big Oscar Winner and The Road Warrior was a better-executed film than Mad Max, possibly because it had a bigger budget, the opposite of Wrath of Khan which had a smaller budget than The Motionless but was a better film.
I too cringe at the idea of Nemesis going up against "The Two Towers" especially due to the buzz that "Fellowship" started among the moviegoers that never picked up a copy of the Rings Trilogy. Even my mother wants to read the second and third book before the film adaptations come out and she's not a heavy reader like I am!
Interesting that the Christmas Rush seems to be the only time when most of the Trek films were released, as though TPTB think that this is the only time when they can make money off of them! Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies!

Strange that, really. Of course these are only US release dates. It'll be months later over here. Then 6 months later the video/DVD releases just as they go over to satellite/cable movie channels. The European DVD pre-Christmas market might be the real target, and everything else juggled around it? Kidding, guys, kidding.

^^^As far as the International Marketplace is concerned, you may not be that far off, my dear. When was "The Grinch" DVD released? The Motion less Picture DVD? Coincidence? I think not!

[glow=green,2,300] the second movie in a triglogy is always the "darkest".. in the first movie you introduce the chacters, in the second they are put in the worst situation they can be in, and in the last, the good guys (always) win.. in the case of LOTR, as big as the first one was, i dont think it will be any smaller than the first one.. so i dont like Nemesis' chances this year.. on the other hand, its a great year for us sci-fi ppl.. Blade II, LOTR, ST: X, SW: 2, TheTimeMachine, TheMatrix 2..
PS: ST:5 sucked IMO, and i am a DIE HARD trekkie [/glow]

I know that Paramount wanted to release the film in a post SW world so they could leach of the Sci-Fi explotion that ALWAYS follows.
That's one reason they waited so long.. Unfortunatly, even with YEARS of work being done (the script was DONE last June - minor changes as I understand) they still can't get their crap together in time (partially, there are MULTIPLE big movies coming out in November so they'd rather battle 1 big one and hope to catch the overflow from sold-out shows.)

Paramount Pictures has pushed Trek X's release date back until December 20, according to UpcomingMovies.com. This is only two days after 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' is scheduled to debut in U.S. cinemas. 'Nemesis' was reportedly being primed for a November 22 release, although that date was never officially confirmed by Paramount, with StarTrek.com stating nothing more specific than "later this year." It is likely the debut has been pushed back to avoid clashing with 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,' 'James Bond 20' and the new Hannibal Lecter film 'Red Dragon,' which are all scheduled for release on November 22. Star Trek films have traditionally premiered at the start of the holiday season. 'Star Trek: Generations' launched on November 17, 1994, while 'Star Trek: First Contact' was released on November 22, 1996. 'Star Trek: Insurrection' debuted slightly later on December 11, 1998
