One of the things that has always bugged me about ST-Generations is the death of the "Klingon Kleavage Sisters", Lursa and B'Etor. Although they were somewhat two dimensional, I think it would have been interesting to see them in future incarnations of Trek. I think that their characters could have been developed more (no pun intended ;D ), not as a legitimate threat to the Klingon government, but at least as renegade spirits.
So, why were they killed off? And should they have not been? What would you do with the characters if they were still around?

I think that often, movies need the bad guys, and gals, to die. It just creates a sense of it being completed.
Also, it would have been hard to keep them alive, in a realistic manner.

But they did get to go out with a bang (unlike some regular characters!). Having the Ent-D finished by archaic Bird Of Prey was somehow more bearable when it was them responsible for it...

I agree that the writers didn't seem to know what to do with them after the Klingon Civil War was over, but that should have provided a challenge for them instead of an excuse to "kill them off!" What about the Alpha Quadrant/Dominion War? They would have made out like bandits when the Klingons didn't know who they were allied with or what their long-term goals were, thanks to Gowron! When Worf killed him and gave the leadership mantle to Martok, that could have been an opportunity for another powerful Klingon house to seize power and collect the spoils after that war! The House of Duras would have been the perfect choice, making renegade Klingons continue to be DS9 threats and generated more stories. Ah, the missed opportunities!

uhmm.. because they were annoying ? Well, you'd have to ask Qab about that, since she is the expert on being annoying Klingon... [Jk...]

Well, Arthur Miller plays are full of annoying characters, but just about every American schoolkid has to read Death of a Salesman. There's a difference between "intentionally written to be annoying" and "annoying because the characters were poorly developed". I guess they were killed off because no-one wanted to take the time to develop (NO pun intended ) their characters. I just think there is more to the female half of the Klingon race than we saw with B'Elanna, K'Ehleyr, and Grilka. But as usual there are a dozen well-developed male Trek characters for every one sketchily-developed female Trek character. Feel free to play with the can of worms I've just opened...

Honestly they were probably considered usless at that point. They could have been brought in for DS9, but they were really TNG characters. Also, it was really a continuation of the Worf story arc. The Duras family SHOULD have been disgraced to no end, but because of politics, it was not. This assured that the Duras reign of power was over once at for all.
As far as more male/female chars. 100% I agree.
In fact, (getting a bit off topic so lets continue somewhere else if need be on THIS topic) On second thought, I'm gonna head to General Trek and start a thread on this... too much to say about it for the TNG forum.

Well, hopefully someone will ask Barbara and Gwyneth if they have an opinion when they get to see them at a convention?
No really, it was for dramatic effect. The look on their faces as they realised what was about to happen...........

Who says they're dead? As Denise Crosby once said, "Anything can happen in Star Trek."

Yeah, but any alien race that would take all the trouble to gather their freeze-dried molecules from space, reassemble and reanimate them would listen to the first sentence that came out of their whiny, selfish mouths and probably blast them out an airlock... Now, add a bit of Orion slave girl DNA into the mix and you might have something! ;D
