What's with these pop-ups today?! What used to be relatively undistracting pop-unders have now become very distracting pop-overs, at it's worst two of them appearing simultaneously! Argh. ARRRGH!!!

You guys didn't see it Thursday from my point of view then - the entire page was being replaced by the ads on my screen. Couldn't hardly do a post without having to back and back then retry.
It was nearly driving me to tears..........

It was nearly driving me to tears.......... Aww... Here is a link to a list of Popup Killers: download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10001-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=srch&qt=Popup+Killer&cn=&ca=10001 There you can download one... I recommend Popup Killer 1.43, it is what I have, and it works. It is also freeware, hurrah! Once you download it, open the program, go to the synchronise tag, and click "Download Available PopUps". That should take care of most. Then if one does appear while you are here, open up the PUKiller menu again, and in the "Detected Popups" list, double click on the name of the ad. From then on it won't bother you. [Those instructions weren't the clearest, but once you see it, it is pretty self explanatory...]

Sooner or later our popup killer began getting stupid on us. Start closing ALL windows practically and we got rid of it. At the time it was just the one add that would sit in the background. No big woop. Now these pop ups are created MORE pop-ups themselves!

Sooner or later our popup killer began getting stupid on us. Hmm, mine works ok... I switch off "smart" mode, however, and only get it to close those that are on the list... That way, the problems are limited.

* gazes at ST in adoration* Isn't he just wunnerful? Such an intelligent and sharing man.......... *Humph!* I use NetCaptor, a terrific little utility that takes multiple IE windows and puts them together into one window, where you access the multiples via tabs at the bottom of the main window. It has a pop-up captor included that works very well. Find it at www.netcaptor.com.

I've had Norton Internet Security taking care of pop-ups, but a few days ago I installed new software and Norton got sideways [wouldn't let me access the Net at all] so I had to uninstall it. With all the other little annoyances I've been experiencing lately, it probably would be a good idea to format the HD software partition and re-install everything, but that's just too laborious!

^ Norton Internet Security doesn't work for me either - it doesn't block any banner ads (like its supposed to) and I can't seem to drag ads into that little trash can anymore. I think I'll stick with Norton Firewall and Pop-up killer.

Hmm... Reasonably similar to me... Norton AV 20025 stops any potential viruses, I have a Windows firewall [though they are pretty much unnecessary if you are careful], and Popup Killer... It works for me.
