This willn't be an official review or anything, but just a few comments that I've to say about the episode seeing as none have started a thread yet. There probably will be a wee bit of spoilers, but nothing major.
I noticed for the first time that Archer has some racks of CD-ROMS of some sort back behind his computer. Kind of interesting, especially since even Cochrane had that little green disk in "First Contact" that was smaller than the CDs. Perhaps he just prefers the old way.
One of the Vulcans said(paraphrased, I don't remember exactly), "We are explorers, not of the stars, but of our minds." That reminded me so much of Q in TNG. (If I'm wrong on what they said, do correct me).
Well, T'Pol had never heard of the mind meld and it seemed that little trick had become lost over the generations. Sure, Spock and Sarek even knew it, but that could be attributed to happenings between then and "Enterprise" times. But, I thought Ponn Far(sp?) required a mind meld between the two. In fact, as far as my understanding goes, that it is mostly carried out through the meld and as little physical interaction is used as possible... Am I wrong in that?

But, I thought Ponn Far(sp?) required a mind meld between the two. In fact, as far as my understanding goes, that it is mostly carried out through the meld and as little physical interaction is used as possible... Am I wrong in that? Well, that's true, but I'm a little confused. In "The Search for Spock" we saw Saavik and the young Spock begin mating by simply touching fingers. (I guess we're to assume that they did the hokie-pokie between scenes.) I'm thinking this was some kind of foreplay, not an actual telepathic link. On Voyager, we saw Vorek do a mindmeld-type thing with B'Elanna during his Pon Farr. He gripped her face with both hands. We later learned that Vorek acted on instinct and said, "it felt very important not to let go." This was more likely the telepathic link. My guess is that because a mindmeld is so intimate and so emotionally taxing (and in this case related to sex,) Vulcans of this era logically concluded that the act was distasteful. Perhaps decades later, Vulcan better perfected the technique.

This is the first episode of Enterprise that made me think "Oh, give me a break!" . I honestly didn't like it. The Kov/Daddy storyline was too much like Spock/Sarek, and the "mind rape" was just a rip-off of the TNG episode "Violations". I was waiting for Hoshi to reminisce about watching her Grandmother do Japanese Brush Painting, or T'Pol to remember knocking over a tray of coins. When I'm sitting on the couch thinking "I wonder if I could knit that hat/scarf thing that T'Pol is wearing when she goes into the Jazz club... it would hide the double chin that I seem to be getting..." then start digging through my yarn stash to see if I have something that will work... I know it's not the best episode. For the record: Best line: T'Pol -- "On occasion, I do drink chamomile tea." Best character development: Archer, getting a bit more respect from Admiral Forrest Best visual effect: Enterprise docked with the Vulcan ship, moving through the nebula Best unexpected plot twist: Hard to find one in a predictable episode. It was more what was not there that was unexpected. Like, where was Porthos when Archer was being thrown across the room? I know my dog would have been trying to give Tolaris a canine castration! Best tie-in with the other ST series: Vulcan's don't dance - Tuvok from VOY in the episode where Neelix leaves. Least likeable part: When Tolaris just agrees to leave the ship. It was like, "Ok, you're pointing a phaser at me, I'll just go quietly now". If this episode were a song, it would be a parody of the Jackson 5: "One Bad Vulcan Don't Spoil The Whole Bunch, Girl" with Mayweather singing lead. ;D

Sorry for my lack of review, but it's been very busy in my home and I've been question my method (With sky 1 only a few weeks behind UPN, the synopisis is not so important)
I'm going to push for more review to open conversation starting with the next ep on Wed.
But yes Qab, I too found it unlikable and forgettable, which is maybe why I've not been to keen on writing that review.
It seemed to try and establish things like that the Mild Meld was a lost art and others, but it kidna failed. It seemed to bog down a lot during the middle and when it finaly DID climax, it was disapointing.... Shut up Elric, I know what your think!!! (under breath) DOM

HEY! I know I'm bad, but I wouldn't say anything that obvious!
SHEESH!
See what happens when you're VCR is on the fritz and they decide to show a potential Pon Farr ep that week? At least I don't have to worry about missing something that would have "raised my interest level" in this series!
SEE, UT? I may be dirty, but at least I'm subtle!

Ya know, Elric, when I worked in a local Superstore's Electronics Repair Department, you wouldn't believe how many embarrassed people would show up with broken VCRs... that usually had merely a blown fuse or a broken belt... and hemmed and hawed because they had gotten one of those movies stuck in it. (They usually wanted immediate service because the tape was a rental and due back that day...) So, go get your VCR fixed. ;D

Et Tu, Qab?
Do you seriously imagine in your wildest dreams that I would ever, under any circumstances, stoop so low and RENT those kinds of movies when I can buy them at less than half price at a discount video store in Manhattan that a friend of mine directed me to nearly two years ago?
I'm insulted!
*Elric buttons up his dingy mac and leaves the room with his dignity in tact*

I am so relieved it's not just me who went 'bleh' at this episode.

Hmm. I quite liked it... Again, there was nice dialogue between the characters and guests [they're doing this well at the moment] and there was some nice T'Pol development...
