All right, so forgive me if this question has been asked a million times already, I'm pretty new to Trek forums.
Anyway, "Blink of an Eye" aired last night on rerun, and it was the second time I've seen the episode, since the original airing. It re-awakened a question that I'd since forgotten.
The Doctor had a son!?! Am I the only one who feels a bit cheated that we didn't get to hear more about this??

Oh yeah. Forgot to add that to the list in the other thread...
**Holodoc goes there now
Explanation of incident is there. I think his time on the weird donut planet is open to something in the future, maybe a nice novel we can sink out teeth into. The fact is the Doctor was evolved at that point to lead a normal, human life without detection. (Then Biller took over the production and it was back downhill with his attitude, but that's for another thread)

Actually, the finer points of holographic procreation wasn't what I meant. More accurately, I felt cheated that we, as viewers were missing out on a great deal of what sounded like a very interesting story. After the doctor's three years on the planet, I found myself much more interested in hearing about his life down there than I was about the actual plot of the show

You have no idea how much of a relief that is to hear.
They ought to do something about that gap someday. From that point on, he was about 9-10 yrs old. There was never any mention of even that following the episode.

It definitely seemed like a bit of a cruel tease to me. I mean, how many times do Star Trek characters commit in a relationship and become parents? It's a big deal! And definitely a fascinating development for the Doctor, a character who never even took a *name* in the seven seasons. You'd think they would have explored that a bit more if they were going to introduce it in the first place. As it stands, it was just sort of a fleeting thought in one episode.

Well, I don't think they were teasing. They were very, very careless with continuity and getting much of anything straight during the last season and a half.

It was almost a throwaway line, as if to say "Well, I am capable of having a life away from you lot and this tin can in space you know."

Lots of opportunity for fan fiction there then, methinks?

Lots of opportunity for fan fiction there then, methinks? You already know what I think of fan fiction.

When the Doc was asked how he had a child, he said something like 'it's a long story', which probably meant he adopted a child, or he used some kind of artificial insemination or he could have just become a stepfather.

was'nt this episode similar to The TNG episode where Picard lived out his life on a planet where he learned to play his whistle, but for the crew of the Ent, it was only a short time.

Yes, except that Blink was a terrific episode, whereas Inner Light was terrible. (We were having this discussion in General Trek in the "Top Five" thread, but I lost the debate there, so I'll just come over here and sulk. ;D )
