The second part of "Workforce" aired tonight... And it's left me somewhat confused as to my opinions on it.
I really liked the idea. It was new, for Star Trek [though I'm not sure if it's been explored before in writing], and the actual execution of it was ok.
Apart from one major thing.
THE ECH.
Yes, this was excellent when used in "Tinker, Tailor, Tenor, Spy", but not in this case. It just seemed 'out of place', and really wasn't good.
Also, there was far too much techno-talk in places... "We hid in the moon's yadda yadda yadda and used a yadda yadda yadda co-axial yadda yadda to contact you..." - it detracted from the story...
Overall, though, I think that it was good...
[And it was the best Janeway relationship so far]

I'm with you on this one - a really good story (ignoring the tech stuff). Lots of people interest and yes, Janeway finally getting a little happiness. If only the woman could KEEP the happiness for a while!

Yeah, but she was brainwashed... I maintain that while she was 'under the influence' she wasn't behaving in typical Janeway fashion and wouldn't have liked him in other circumastance. Yep, typical shipper mentality ;D But did you see the way Seven rushed over to seperate them... *sighs*

I hated this episode. It's my least favorite two-parter in the whole run. I have two specific comments to offer regarding Workforce: ick and blech. I didn't like the ECH. I didn't like Ralph Mouth from Happy Days as the bad guy. I didn't like the way the characters changed. I didn't like what they did to Tuvok. (There's something about seeing a Vulcan laughing hystrically or crying in terror that rocks my very being.) I didn't like Janeway's love interest. I didn't like the story as a whole. I didn't like anything remotely associated with Workforce. Other than that, it was a mediocre episode. ;D Seriously...the technobabble was the only redeeming quality this episode had.

Actually, I think the scariest thing for me was that I didn't particularly like Janeway in the leather suit thing That was the only reason I was looking forward to it!

I agree with you all so far. The writers have the opportunity to create a larger, deeper plot with a two-parter, but this plot could have easily been done in 47 minutes.
I thought I would like this one, because I really liked "Conundrum" from TNG. In that episode, we got to see the Enterprise-D characters drop all their ranks and emotional barriers and we got to see what it was like for the characters if they were to meet each other for the first time. It was interesting to see the characters interact...Riker and Ro, Worf and Picard, Data and Geordi, etc.
But the writers again (as is typical of Voyager,) ruined the plot with it with a bunch of meaningless action sequences. Had they focused more on characterization and less on chase scenes and the ECH, "Workforce" might have been great.
