"You see," Jefferys told Rhai. "As I was listening to some music I was amazed that the same melody can have so many meanings just based on the key, tempo, instrument, etc. That's when I remembered reading the studies from the Nebula. It too keeps repeating the same melody, but at different tempos and other variances, which is why the computer didn't pick up on it."
"Are you suggesting there is LIFE in that Nebula?"
"While this is all well and fine," inserted Zack, "we've got another problem to deal with: Thram."
"NO!" Jefferys yelled. "This is all related. You see, these patterns could be signals adjusting our neural waves. They could be adjusting our thoughts and memories! That's why you all think that you're really Captains."
Rhai's head sank as she looked back to Zack. When her face came back to Jefferys it was one of sorrow, maybe even pity. "Gavin, which makes more sense. That everyone on board this ship is having their thoughts altered, or YOU, and only you, are having your thoughts altered?"
Zack was getting restless. "Rhai, let's go. We NEED to regain control of this ship."
Gavin grabbed her arm. "Promise me you'll look into this more!"
"Come on, Captain!" Zack nearly yelled.
"OK, Gavin. I promise. We'll look into it."

Captain Johansson was getting impatient. He was in Sickbay waiting for Captain Jefferys to come back from his quarters. But since it was taking so long, his curiosity took hold of him. Before long, he was in front of Captain Jeffery's quarters.
"Come," Jefferys spoke, as the chime sounded, and Johansson came in. "Ah, Captain Johansson..." He was beginning to realize that this situation would last a long time, and that all he could do for the time being, was to play along, but, he was reluctant in doing so. He did so even though he knew he was the real captain. Maybe he was going to be able to relax and sleep better if he just went along with it.
"I was getting worried that something was wrong, Gavin. I came to see if you were alright.", Johansson said.
Jefferys looked at Johansson and replied," I'm.....", pausing to search for an answer and remembering that he was playing along, "fine."
"I see that both Captain Rhai and Captain Zack have just left, Gavin. I hope they were of some help."
Jefferys just couldn't take it anymore. He tried playing along, but it was eating up inside of him. He slammed his fist onto his coffee table which startled the Doctor. "No. They weren't of any help. At least not for this. I can't believe this is happening to me. To me and my ship. I'm supposed to be in command here, and everyone is thinking they are acting like captains. No, they aren't even acting like true captains. They are acting like bloody clowns!."
"Whoa, calm down there, Gavin. Here, this will make you feel better." Johansson reached out from his belt and took out a mild sedative that would keep him awake, but keep him less agitaged.
"What's happening to me? My ship, my crew...."
"With all due respect, Gavin, I DO believe you." He remembered the time Jefferys saved him from his Monkey incident, and wanted to pay him back.
Jefferys looked towards Johansson with a shock in his face. "You.... believe me?"
Johansson smiled. "Oh, I definitely do, Captain."
"I still don't know why you came down here to see me. Couldn't you have used your combadge?" He looked at Johansson's uniform only to realize that he had no combadge there. "Oh...."
Johansson dropped his malfunctioning communicator onto Jefferys' coffee table. "This, I believe is a link to our problems, Captain."
"But all I see is a communicator", Jefferys responded.
"Yes, but a malfunctioning communicator. I'm the only one who hasn't been experiencing pain, which has affected others like what Captain Stirok first experienced."

"Scan the ship. Where is Capt. Jefferys?" Dayna asked the lieutenant. "Uh, what's your name?"
"It's Lt. Renfro, and Capt. Jefferys is in his quarters with Dr. Johansson," replied Renfro in a slightly indignant manner.
Dayna paced the floor, trying to think of a way to restore Jefferys to the bridge. Thram had probably taken over the ship, due in no small part to his delusions and imposing stature.
"Is there anyone in auxiliary engineering?" asked Dayna.
"No, ma'am."
Dayna turned and stomped down the hall to the laboratory and swung open the glass doors.
"I need some equipment," she shouted. The scientists regarded her with aplomb, and she rolled her eyes. Scientists were not used to direct orders; they had to be cajoled, or at least threatened with the loss of research monies. Luckily she had an idea of where what she needed was stored and quickly collected it without having to further annoy the resident geniuses.
She made her way to the transporter room, which, luckily, was occupied by the transporter technician.
"Beam me aboard the USS Archer, auxiliary engineering," said Dayna as she stepped onto the transporter pad.
The technician made several adjustments and then Dayna found herself in a small room that contained various consoles. She walked over to one and sat down. She adjusted several controls and then inserted her ear plugs. 30,000 Hz should do the trick, she thought. Of course she had obtained the clearance codes for all the officers on board, and entered the one for Commander Zack.
The sound waves enveloped the ship, knocking everyone unconscious. Dayna quickly exited auxiliary engineering and ran to Capt. Jefferys' quarters, leaping over the fallen crewmembers strewn along the hallways. She stood outside Capt. Jefferys' quarters and popped open the door's control panel. She disengaged the locking mechanism and the doors swept open.
Capt. Jefferys was lying on the floor and Dayna ran over to him and inserted the ear plugs. He woke up presently, and looked at Dayna in confusion. She helped him to his feet and he reached for his ear plugs, as if to remove them.
Dayna shook her head vigorously and mouthed the word, Bridge. Then she turned to exit and motioned for Jefferys to follow her. They made their way to the bridge and then she and Jefferys dragged all the other personnel off the bridge and into the turbolift, sending it down to the lower decks. They sealed all entrances and Dayna disengaged the ultrasonic sound wave.
"They're going to be quite upset with you when they wake up," she said.
"Then you believe I'm captain of this ship?" said Jefferys.
"Of course you're captain. What is going on here?"
"I don't know," said Jefferys. "But it has something to do with that nebula. The doctor also mentioned something about malfunctioning communicators."
At that point, Dayna sat down at the science officer's station. "Well, I don't know much about nebula gases or whatever, but I'm willing to help. What should I do?"

"Well," Jefferys started, "We need to know HOW that nebula is affecting the crew. It appears that it has some intelligence. I'd leave, but I don't know if that would fix the problem. Maybe we could get the doctor up here. What do you think?"
Dayne started to speak, but suddenly grabbed her head and fell to the floor, screaming in pain. Gavin ran to her side. By the time her got there, the pain seemed to have gone.
"Dayne, what's going on?"
"That's Captain D'Aaron, Mr. And I think we'd better get a bigger crew up here. Maybe you should head back to your quarters and lie down."
Gavin stepped back. Now her too! He put his hand down toward his phaser, but the young officer was faster.
"Hold it! Don't try it." She hit her com badge. "Captain D'Aaron to Captain Thram. I've secured the bridge and have Jefferys at phaser point. Please come up here to escort him to his quarters."
[Captain, I'll bring Captains Golko and Travvers with. Travvers will escort Jefferys and Golko and I will remain to run the ship. Give us, and ONLY us access.]
"Will do. D'Aaron out. Well, Jefferys looks like you're going back to your room."
"Dayne," he tried to plead. "You KNOW that Nebula has intelligence, you KNOW it's affecting our brainwaves." At that moment Thram arrived. He'd obviously been waiting at (or in) a turbolift. "That Nebula is affecting you all!"
"Wrong," shouted Thram. "Sir, as a scientist you must agree that the more likely situation is that YOU are the only one affected, NOT the entire ship. Travvers, escort him to Sickbay. Maybe the doctor can fix him."
Yes, though Gavin. The doctor is the perfect person. But, I need more help. He then thought about the one person who hadn't been causing trouble, who was also likely the only person to have a chance fighting this thing.
"Yes, I'll go to Sickbay with you. I'm agree it is a more likely situation. But, I request another person to go with me to help." He his is com badge. "Captain Stirok, please meet me in Sickbay with Captain Johanssen."
He was then escorted off the bridge.
